Chassis Discussion

Ok, 3U with rear panel components, black, plan it to build this one with a couple of SMPS. I think I got all the parts now, except for the front panel switch now.

This one will have no handles.

Today I had to move the SissySIT.. that sucker is a 4U with dual linear power supplies, that one NEEDS the handles...

Thanks.

Excellent call @xt0rted and great questions @tonyEE

I'll work with @Gianluca to get renderings of the hole positions posted to the store site.

All Deluxe chassis front panels have the 9-hole pattern. All of those holes are drilled / tapped M3 holes at ~5mm depth. Any of them can be used as pilot holes to fully drill through for an LED or LEDs. The more popular locations are those that are ~1/3 the distance from bottom to top. The center location left to right is popular for a single LED. The two outer locations are popular for LEDs indicating power-on of a bipolar supply or a dual mono supplies.

The PASSdiy front panels have the same 9-hole pattern, since they are now available as part of the Deluxe chassis. In addition to the 9 drilled / tapped holes, they have two fully drilled holes, specifically intended for LEDs, visible through the "sine wave" CNC cut. We wanted to ensure that these holes were fully drilled, since even a slightly off-axis hand drill may result in an undesired outcome. Users may leave the holes as-is, but many users drill out the holes to a slightly larger diameter, but not entirely through the front panel, to accommodate various diameter light pipes and LEDs.

Front panel power switches vary widely in size and shape. There are a number of people that have used the center / lower pilot hole, but many people choose their own location based on the choice of switch, their choice of front panel design, and their internal layout.

@ItsAllInMyHead

Was checking the new Deluxe chassis offerings on the diy web shop and noticed that there are no U vs. depth variations specified. Also, I can't find the depth spec for all the Deluxe offerings (2, 3, 4 and 5U).

Does that mean that 2, 3 and 4U Deluxe always comes in 300mm depth and 5U Deluxe comes in 400mm depth when purchasing via diy store, but for other variations we need to go through modus?

Thanks!

That is great, thanks!

When it comes to predrilled holes on the heatsinks, Wolverine project wise, is it still the case that only EF3-3 boards will fit "out of the box" and EF3-4 and EF3-5 boards will needs additional drilling, or all the variations of EF boards are now covered as an "out of the box" experience with the new Deluxe series?

Can you please elaborate for that particular project?

Thanks!

^ That's something you'd need to discuss with the people that designed those boards. The Wolverine is not a diyAudio product. With that said, I have some of the original EF-3 Wolverine boards from the first group buy, and with careful choice of output devices, no additional holes were needed. So, that is likely to still be the case. Stuart and group are phenomenal, and they'll be able to tell you in an instant.

Is there a heatsink mounting hole layout document for the 4U and 5U 400mm chassis?

I mean, if the heatsink layout of Deluxe 1 is the same as the Deluxe 2, then my question is answered.

Or to rephrase, are there any new holes added to the new Deluxe heatsinks?

@Mainframe @stuartmp

Are you guys aware of the changes between old and new Deluxe heatsink layout (if there is any?) and what is compatible with the EF 3, 4 and 5?

Now that we finally have the chassis released, we could aggregate that info so we know what's there out of the box compatible for each of the EF boards...

Thanks!

Well, that's just great. They have really nice Whammy enclosure that sells for $119. Honestly, I did look around for a suitable chassis for one of my two Whammys. Just getting the internal size right can be a challenge. And cost? Hey there sailor, how much money you got? For $119, I can Get something that is really good looking, and ya know what? A real value. That didn't become obvious until you got to get something engraved, or mess up a few holes on the front panel.
On a side note. Just got the other Whammy (w/0 chassis) yesterday, and yup, TWo Whammy's are better than one.
