Hi lestertrad & Buckapound
Sorry,I forgot to give you a message.I haven't got the news for it.the best way is one end of the cable is a connector, and the other side of the cable soldered.

Huang,
That's the conclusion I reached myself, so will be trying that.
In case anyone else wants to work with laptop drives, I did some digging the other day and came up with this:
http://www.packardbellweb.co.uk/hdd...thout_reading_all_this_technical_guff_simple_
Looks like those laptop drives are generally are set for "slave" mode, and to go into master, all that's needed is to short pins 45 + 47 on the 50-pin ATAPI connector. I did it on the adaptor board, and then the drive appeared to function correctly with the controller kit. I love it when it works out!

Yes, I have very much the same thing, bought from eBay. Mine didn't come with jumpers on the one 4-pin connector. Looking at yours, setting master/slave must be the function of that, I assume. That never occurred to me. I'm really not used to these computer parts.

That's OK.I got these connetor many days ago.And haven't list on ebay. 🙂 You got the way to set it work on master. That's great too.

Hi Huang,
I managed to get the controller playing music with a Plextor laptop drive, and it sounds pretty good to my ears. However, I'm having display and control problems.
When I insert a CD, it starts playing, and the "stop," "<<" and ">>" buttons work fine. If I hit the "play" or "pause" button, then the disk stops and none of the controls work after that. It is the same whether I use the wired buttons or the remote, so I am assuming the problem is not the connections to the buttons.
The other problem is with the display. Sometimes (but not always) the display will have lots of vertical lines, partially covering up the text.
Do you have any experience with this fault condition? Suggestions to try and fix?
Cheers,

Hi Buckapound
Sorry about that. You can try to do this and see the problem will happen or not.
1.Try to make some alcohol to clean the LCD where the pictrue show below.
2.Change another fine IDE cable.
3.Change another CDROM.
Sincerely
Huang

I did all that, but something is still wrong.
I cleaned the flux and tried two different IDE cables, with no change.
I plugged-in a different CD-ROM player, the Panasonic DVR I had been using earlier and which worked fine originally. It plays a disk OK, like the Plextor laptop drive, but it shows "Track 0" and doesn't show any times. But this drive acts a little different--the controls still function normally (pause, play, etc.).There are still weird lines running vertically on the display. I have adjusted the potentiometer that governs display brightness and it does not fix the problem.
What can I do about this? I'd like to build two units at some point. Is there some way I could have mishandled it and damaged the display? If so, I don't know how.

Nope huang, but I don't want to hurt you asking anything for free. I'll pay the damaged part with no problems. Due the display still working I think, let me know what to order and how arrange to get it working again, thanks! 😉

Hi piero7
OK.
Mostly the problem is the microchip AT89S52.But I am not very sure.So I have an idea,I have an old controller(work fine) without LCD&Remote (see below). I can sold it to you with 15USD including shipping. You can first uninstall the AT89S52 to your controller see if it can work again.Or not you can use this old controller.
Also you can get a new controller without LCD&Remote. The price is 17USD and 7USD shipping.
What do you think about?Just tell me if you have a better idea.
Regards
Huang
