btw - did any canadians buy lenses from lumenlabs or diyprojectorcompany? I wanna know if there was customes/brokrage fee and how the lenses worked!!

Or if anyone can tell me where to find large *** 80mm triplets in canada I will be happy. If not then I think I will have to contact my physics dept. at Uni. and see where they get thier optics from, for all their cool light/laser experiments.

both are great, but i would lean towards lumenlab. not sure if they have any instock as i know they have been selling alot of these babies lately.

it's been awhile (over 6mths) since i got my last lens shipment so i can't remember which way it was sent.

there was no customs fee's. i just paid the purchase price + the shipping cost to LL or diypc and that was it.

ancorp ... according to lumenlab forums - in their product review section, brainchild claims that the Innovatek 7'' vga lcd has 'snakepit of FFC issues'.

http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3032

Personally I am pretty confident working with electronics. I have worked w/ microchips, wiring and breadboards @ school. Therefore I am not too worried about the ffc.

These lcds are in back-order so I wont be able to tell anyone about the issues of stripping anytime soon :xeye:

I hope to get them in 2 weeks time (from Jan 10th,05).

BTW : I am also thinking of getting a lilliput w/out VGA input. It only has RCA input and is bit cheaper than the Innovatek. Is it worth to get a VGA input?

Oh I see...

I think that its definately worth to get one with the VGA port. With proper scaling on a computer with a tv card, the quality should be much better. Plus you can use your projector with your computer properly (not using TV out, which gives worse quality)

condenser lens

sup fellas,

Have a question about condenser lens. Do i really need one (I am building a 7'' pj)? And if so, are there any places in Canada (Greater Toronto Area pref.) where I can buy them from?

I havent gone thru my yellow pages yet but if anyone knew where to buy, it would save me some time. I was able to find some cheap surface mirrors in the Mississauga area - just called one of the stores from the mirror section of the yellowpages. Hopefully I can find condenser lens as easily. 🙄

hey guys..im selling my nview z115 projection panel...works perfectly..has hard carrying case for it too... looking for around $100 cnd plus any shipping...can send you pics if you want just email me your email address to mindless_fool@hotmail.com

here is a link to one for sale on ebay..mine is the same but is tested to work perfectly and has a hard case not a soft case

I think active surplus might have some - but they are in downtown.

Thanx ancorp - i am gonna holla at them yet again. Been there nuff times (for school and for this pj). I even went a few weeks ago to them for fresnel, triplet, lcds .... each time i got shot down w/ dissapointment. But you cant break my spirit that easily.

My 7'' lcds are on their way (montreal) and my lenses are on their way from lumenlabs and my bulb is right here. I cant wait.

BTW. where did you find the fs mirrors?

I just yellowpage canada online and searched mirrors.
Think I called this place :

Crizal Glass & Mirror Ltd
905-273-3388
3663 Mavis Road,
Mississauga, ON L5C 2Z2

They custom cut and they said for a 7''x7'' piece would be about $10CDN 🙂🙂🙂

Been eating, dreaming, sleeping, thinking, shi**ting this damn diyPj. Cant wait.

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the lens kit from Lumenlab.com I hope that there won't be duty problems, but that's the chance you take.

Anyone have feedback on the Liquid Crystal E15LCD1 panel? There seem to be a few on eBay reasonably priced, but I wasn't able to find specs on it for contrast ratio and response time, or for that matter colour depth.

I understand that you can cut down the fresnel lenses for use with a smaller LCD... I don't know if I want to do that, given the relatively low resolution (480 X 234 typical) of the 7" screens, but on the other hand, those screens seem to be readily available, and reasonably cheap with respectable colour depth, contrast ratios, and response times.

I seem to recall someone using the Myron and Davis 7" units available at Canadian Tire for about the $200 CAD range. I'm sure that there are better prices on similar units around...

😎 Hi out there, this looks interesting. Since I plan to finish my basement a home theater was in the cards. Was planning n being boring and buy a projector, but it would be more fun to build one. . Any one in the Toronto area / golden horseshoe who has a working model. I would love to see the end results and the picture quality. If I am going to take my time and money i need to know if its worth it.

Great site i must say.

my update and some good news for bulb buyers

Hi folks (welcome argylle92 - i am in the gta as well)

I have some good news for ppl looking for metal halide eye bulbs (double ended ones). I called this place -

Eurolite
416-203-1501
5 Lower Sherbourne Street,
Toronto, ON M5A 2P3

They carry them but the guy kept telling me how dangerous 250 watt or a 400watt mh lamp can be so i stuck w/ my 175watt. And on that note, i was able to exchange my old 8.5'' 175watt bulb to a 5'' one. Much much much smaller (almost the same size as the double ended ones). 😀

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

The bottom link shows my old 8.5'' bulb - for comparison - (wait a few sec and scroll down to post #140):

Also, my lcd came this week - it is the sexyiest thing.
