Proxima

With shipping and handlig, the customs fee and exchange rate it costs me $190 Canadian.

Once i figure out the power supply though I will have my present 3M 6450 for sale. It works fine except the only input it accepts is the svga from the computer. The RCA and S-video imput on it do not seem to accept a signal. I purchased a converter though so I can plug my dvd player into it and then it goes to the panel through the svga monitor jack.

But I cannot sell it until I get the power supply for the proxima and get it working.

The faster you help me get that, the faster I can sell the 3m

well post a pic of the pinout (draw it if you only hav the spec sheet) and what voltage it needs (12v i assume) using an old AT power supply may not be a good idea, ive heard if you dont put a high enough load onto the 5volt line, the 12volt might go up to like 14 or 15 and may damage the panel. Better pick up a nice 12v adapter from radioshack or sumtin. It has to be pretty powerful though around 12amperes (i maybe able to get you one cheap, i have a couple from my old laptops, but you live in winnipeg and that way too far from my place, Toronto, Ontario)

so post the pinout and ill see if i can help you out

Here're the power connectors pin out for the Ovation 81x, 82x

The Proxima Ovation hasn't got a normal power supply...

Proxima Ovation 8xx powersupply pinout

Pin Description
1 Ground
2 Ground
3 + 5V DC 3.0 Ampere
4 - 5V DC 0.3 Ampere
5 + 12 V DC 2 Ampere

This is the best I have been able to come up with, let me know what you can do for me. Thanks

ok first things first - you need a cable with a tip that would fit the panel. as far as i know, the cable used for audio in the older times (at least in europe, not sure about north america) was suitable for that. Im moving and Ive just trashed 3 or 4 of those cables and a extension for it too:cannotbe:

An AT power supply would work well since this panel uses 5 volts also - i trashed one out a week ago :cannotbe: :cannotbe: :cannotbe:

Thats the pin out that you can get the right connections. Almost any at powersupply should be powerful enough

Pin Description for the panel as u mentioned
1 Ground
2 Ground
3 + 5V DC 3.0 Ampere
4 - 5V DC 0.3 Ampere
5 + 12 V DC 2 Ampere

Powersupply pinout for the 2 big wires doing to the motherboard
Pin Funtion Wire color

1. Power Good * Orange
2. +5Vdc Red
3. +12Vdc Yellow
4. -12Vdc Blue
5. Ground Black
6. Ground Black

7. Ground Black
8. Ground Black
9. -5Vdc White
10. +5Vdc Red
11. +5Vdc Red
12. +5Vdc Red

you should probably have it mached up like this -
(panel pin, powersupply pin)
(1,7) (2,8) (3,10) (4,9) (5,3)

That should work, but if your panel dies - sorry not my prob😀 .
Good luck, and if you ever come near toronto, tell me maybe ill be able to get you something or buy your old panel (REALLY NEED ONE, I DONT TRUST SHIPPING).🙁

anyone in toronto know were i could get a 400W metal halide EYE bulb i got one at home depot but the specs arent as good and its too big

I am from the T[Dot] as well (and hello to all u Canucks). I got my 175 watt MH lamp & ballast and mogul socket from Nadir Lighting (They were a bit cheaper from Home Depot as well... $39.99CDN VS $25@Nadir for the bulbs). I just opened up the yellow pages and went to lighting section. I bought a 400watt and ballast but later exchanged it. Try other places in the lighting section. I am positive you will find something. I went with a 175watt cas i am going w/ a 7'' lcd - instead of 15''.

If anyone is looking for fresnel lens in T.O., check out telescope stores. I got mine from a store across Yorkdale Mall (DUffrine and 401). I dunno what the focal lenght is but its only $8CDN + tax, you cant go wrong. They are 8x11'' - good enough for my 7'' lcd and big enough to fit on my 14'' lcd on my laptop 🙂

Anyone know where i can buy a triplet lens locally? Thats the last piece of the puzzle i need to start my pj.

Can't help with the last question, but...

The "lexan" that you're looking for in Home Depot, is probably going to be sold as "lucite" -- There are 2 types available, one is the "super clear" stuff, which may not be exactly optical quality, but is certainly excellent. I use some for my homemade A/C holder, so that I can still see out of the portion of the window that isn't filled up with the air conditioner during the summer months. For what it's worth, I see more ripple and distortion through the sliding patio doors than I do through the lucite, so it's not likely to introduce any apreciable distortion into a projector.

There's also a "tuff" version, which is stronger, but supposedly not as clear (though I can't see a difference with reasonabl thicknesses) which I use in car audio installations for cover panels in false floors which may get stuff thrown on top of them. It's very strong, so it takes trunk abuse without breaking, even in very frigid temps.

Both versions are UV resistant, so will work well for UV protection of the LCD screen.

And if Home Depot doesn't carry it, I know that Rona does.

metal halide shopping...

Anyone know where to get a 400 watt HQI metal halide bulb (4200K) in Canada? Only place I can find them is in the U.S., and the damn brokerage fee is a killer on cross-border shipments. Also looking for a cold mirror... or even a decent-sized hot mirror. Any leads?
Cheers,
IJ

Osram Hqi Bulb

If anybody is interested...

I found a local wholesaler that has the HQI-TS 250W/NDL UVS 4200K in stock, but minimum order is 6. They want $60CAD + taxes. I can't find any other source. I priced it in the US and with shipping, brokerage fees and taxes, it will work out to more. If anybody is interested in doing a group buy... let me know. I'd be happy to ship them out. I'm guessing shipping will be >$10CAD.

Or if somebody knows where I can get a single piece for a decent price, please let me know.

They can also get the 5100K but didn't have it in stock.

Gordon

David Nelson has a Ushio model MH400/U/MOG/40/PS for sale. He is in B.C. I just bought a Ushio T-15 from him. You can contact him at nvl@telus.net

MH lights

Hi Monz and Gord:
Thanks Monz, but I'm actually looking for a double-ended HQI bulb. The only ones I've found at Home Depot are those honkin' street-light-sized single-ended bulbs, which I think is what you're referring to... 🙁
Anyone have a source on 400 watt double-ended HQIs in Canada?
And Gord, who's you wholesaler for those 250 watt units? I Wouldn't mind contacting them to see if they have the 400 watt HQI bulbs I need...
Cheers,
IJ

When I was getting my bulb, I asked the lighting vendor if they carried the bulb you are looking for. They said that they dont carry it but there are vendors out there. You will just have to look thru your yellow pages more throughly than I did. I was just glad to find a place that sold me a ballast and bulb. The ones you are looking for cost about $60-70CDN. Good-luck
