YAY CANADIANS!!!

LOL

I've been reading up on diy projecotors for the last month, looking for parts and stuff and having a horrible time cuz all the info i'm getting was from people who live in Europe or the States. Its so awesome to find somehwere i can get some LOCAL help. hahah

Home Depot has ballasts and bulbs....

Ok, I went down to Home Depot today, and found that they have 400watt and 175watt metal hallide bulbs (damn those things are huge!!!!) and also 175watt mercury vapor I think.

Now - the mh bulbs cost around $40. But the cheapest light fixture (not seperate ballast) was $108, and it was huge!

The mercury vapor bulb had a fixture for it too - only around $30-40, with 24,000 hour, 7,900 lumen bulb!

CAN it be used? It looked like the arc was huge (didnt get to turn it on). It was around an inch in lenght? Will it be ok to use still? Im thinking - 15" lcd, that bulb, fresnels from us (maybe the standard triplet, maybe Ill try the 135mm lens that I have) and project onto a 84" 1.8 gain screen. Will I get a fairly bright image in a dark room?

Thanks for any tips,
Something tells me I will have to post this in the lighting section too,
Cheers,
Alex

bought my lighting stuff from a local lighting store and the lenses off lumenlabs (simply cas others say diypj takes too long to process). Bought a 7'' lcd from ebay. I will be making my prototype this weekend - but if I dont get the results I am looking for, I will be selling all my parts.

Comm. pjs are looking real good and becoming almost afforadble 😀

Hey sid58ney,

Many have problems finding MH (250-400watts Double ended ones) at home depot or even at a general lighting store. I searched thru the yellow pages and found 2 suppliers in Toronto/GTA and posted them here a while back.

www.nalp.com (Mississauga : Dixie /Eglinton )
www.atlaslighting.ca (Scarborough)

I am sure your yellow page can point to lighthing suppliers in your local area. Just go thru the lighting section and start dailing. Good luck.

Take look this bulb

Hi guys can you tell me is this bulb good enough?
I use 8" LCD with 80mm projector lens

High color temperature 6500 Kelvin
high color rendering 90 CRI
Universal Operating position
18,000 initial and 13,500 mean lumens

Please

That sounds very good, but if you have more specs on it like maybe on a website that would be even better. Or maybe a model number?

Im from canada too, where did u get the bulb and how much (if you have it). I wouldnt mind getting my hands on one 🙂
