I don't have cash now.... once I have money, I hope I can build a 7" lilliput or 10" Toshiba projector!
hey TheNoodPoopler
im looking for a good light source cheap..im in the GTA ebay is usless cause you spend a lot on shipping (cause ballast is heavy) and that dam brokage fee and tax....where did you get your stuff?
and i might be looking into a dichroic light setup...its a 12V 50
w halogen that puts out a lot of light...its only good for small lcd's...i got a 9" one that i stripped out of my nview projection panel...i think i will need 2 of the lights...the good part of the lights are that they are cheap ..and last 5000h so thats not too bad...each light would give off 7200LM....but you need to buy the one with 8degrees of something..not sure what..to focus the light forward...here is what someone else posted...
lets keep this canadian thread open!! CANADA ROCKS!!!!

im going to go to home depot tonight and see if they got any of the 10 degree ones..or at least 13 heard that one works good too...My light is a dichroic light, 50w and 12v, not a spotlight! It's very bright, but unfortunately if you want great lumens you have to use 10° light! I also have seen a 24° beam with 5500LM but I think it hasn't enough lumens...

I got my stuff from my local home depot, luckily they had the proper MH bulb i was looking for. If you buy a MH look for one that has 4500k color temp. Its basicaly just pure white light. Will post pics soon!
Been posted before, but here it is again:
~ Proudly built in Beautiful British Columbia! ~
3M OHP Model 1730
Mobile Authority M71 7" widescreen TFT
- Non-VGA, 1440 (480) x 234 resolution
- composite input only
Blackout cloth screen ( with lots of wrinkles! )
100" projected image from a distance of 14 feet
The pics: ( some are quite large )
Testing the setup for the first time
King of the hill at 40" while testing
At 100" on the blackout cloth
King of the hill at 100"
Another at 100"
The stripped LCD
The OHP
One last pic, the wrinkly screen, but it shows the size of things and relative distance of OHP to screen
I still have to tweak my camera settings to get a good clear pic of the projections, they do look better in person. I used the 7" simply because I already had it, I pulled it from my car, but I plan on swapping it for a 15" NEC lcd running from an ATI All-in-wonder 9600 soon.

where are you located in BC?? I live in Abbotsford. btw thats an awesome projector!! Cant wait to get started on mine!!!
well that aint very far from me. lol. I would drive up to your place, but i'm 16. 😀 So its kinda hard to get up there. lol. Well i'm still waiting on the projection panel. Man am i excited to get started on this thing!!!!
Best of luck on your project! It should be nice and bright with that MH bulb in there. Mine is using the 360w halogen it came with, 3M rates this OHP at 2500lm, minus the loss of going through an LCD, but it still looks good. How much was your light setup at Home Depot? Might be time to do a retrofit to this thing!
total cost was $60.
250w MH Bulb - 15
Ballast - 40
Mogul Base - 5
Yah i think that i should get a pretty bright pic with this setup, i was going to go with the 400w MH but then i decided that the 250w is plenty bright!!

Avoiding the UPS brokerage fees....
OK, here's a useful tip for all my fellow Canadians, since I noticed someone mention this earlier in the thread...
YES, there is a way to avoid ALL the UPS brokerage fees! It works, I've personally done this. Of course, you can't avoid the tax (you didn't think it would be that good, did you? 🙄 ). So here's what you need to do:
1. When the package is sent from the US, be sure to get the UPS tracking number right away.
2. BEFORE the package gets to the border (it's best to do this immediately when you get the tracking #), call up the UPS toll-free number and tell them you will broker the package through customs yourself. The person on the phone will give you the address where you need to go to get the documentation. In my case, I go to the UPS brokerage office at the Vancouver Int'l airport. They will let you know when the docs are ready for you.
3. You go to the UPS office, pick up the docs and take them a few blocks to the Canada Customs office, where you pay the tax and they stamp your form. Then you go over to the UPS depot which is just around the corner, and pick up your parcel. The whole thing will take you < 30min.
That's it!
Total brokerage fee paid: $0
Total C.O.D. fee paid: $0
Total "disbursement" fee paid: $0
Presto, you've just saved yourself $30...$50...$100 or whatever UPS would've extorted from you.
😱 😕 🤐
<- UPS guy 😎
Spread the word, and once again enjoy cheap prices from south of the border! Down with those greedy UPS crooks!
