Hi,
1N4739 is a simple 9.1V Zener with a 1W rating; any similar part will do as replacement. Your BZX-part has a lower dissipation rating, so it's a smaller part. Depending on driver current that's likely to still be enough.

The zeners marked D101 and D102 on the output board, how important is it that they are exactly 1N4739?
I have 1N4007, 1N4004 and 1N4148. Can I use any of those as substitute or is it imperative to use 1N4739?
Kind regards

I can recommend a book in english entitled 'Starting Electronics' third edition, by Keith Brindley published by Newnes. I purchased it from 'Maplin' over here in the UK to refresh my knowledge of basic electronics and it worked. It doesn't cover some of the topics to the depth required for the BA-2 build but it allows one to ask better questions. It takes the reader through the basic properties of components including transistors and ICs and lays out a series of circuits to put the theory to the test. The same store also sells a box of electronics for about £24 which contains all the components you will need for the test circuits suggested in the book (oh and you will need a multimeter but you need that for this project anyway).
Best wishes,
Chris
Thanks for the tip. I am a novice on some deep water in this project but learning a lot on the way. Thanks for the healp.

Regulated supply for the BA-2 front end
Dear all hi,
Can a separate regulated power supply be used for the front end ?
Thanks

I know it is going to be right in front of me when I ask, but where is the BOM. I searched the thread for BOM, Parts list, part list,.......
There are schematics in the articles about the Burning Amps under the "Articles" menu
at the top of the pages, or here:

Yes, I was expecting to find a BOM since most software generates it automatically. But I will go through the schematic.
I guess at first I was going to just let this slide, but this all seems a little strange to me. This is a PCB kit that is sold through the site. It is very easy to generate a BOM. I understand people are donating time and their services, but I would have to imagine the work of creating a BOM would be far less then answering questions about "where is the BOM". So if I understand correctly, the expectation is that we will create the BOM using the schematic which is very thin on relevant information and then also go through the article and find the missing pieces of information? This seems like a ton of work. I appreciate the reference provided by Highfieldrebel but believe a BOM should be provided by the personal who created the PCB's and contain their recommend part list. Also, I would think this method of BOM generation would lead to people making mistakes and would again create a lot of unnecessary work for the designers and unhappy builders.
Yes we will have a BOM at some point, but the person designing the circuit isn't the person who designed the circuit boards. I guess you mean a generic BOM- value of the resistors and such. I wasn't aware that the PCB software will generate this, and will contact the person who laid out the boards.
So it seems like a ton of work to you and easy for us? 😉 This really isn't a "kit", its some PCB's for various amps for people to build a projects that are discussed on these forums. Circuit boards seem to be the best first step or otherwise you have to etch your own! Now that's a lot of work! There is a wide divergence of opinion on components around here, so different people prefer different components, but of course the values are usually the same..
But we really do want to make it easier for everyone to make an amp, and our first step has been to make PCB's. I agree that a "starter" BOM will be certainly helpful to those making amps, and we will have one when we can get to it..

I guess I'd flip it around. It seems to me that the design and PCB layout work on this site is done by only a handful of people. Others chip in by organising a group buy or suchlike (which sounds like a second day job - without pay). If there's a BOM missing, then this is an opportunity to contribute by posting one. Don't worry about errors, if they're there, they will be found 🙂 Even better to supplement it later with say Mouser part numbers, or whatever the equivalent is in your locale.
I would be happy to make one. I also think Digikey has a new function where you can create a BOM and make it public so people can just click it and it generates a shopping cart with everything in it.

That would be great. You can take the outset in the BOM I have just generated. As Mark says, a lot of work is saved by not having to etch boards yourself and going through the guide is a must no-matter if you have a BOM or not.

cviller is the guy who laid out the boards. Seems like he can indeed "generate " stuff..
Thanks
Thanks
I didn't know that Highfieldrebel was associated with DIYAudio or legitimate - but it appears that he/she is? I don't want to step on anybodies toes and I am actually just going to order the parts through the site Highfieldrebel linked to.
Don't worry, I'm useless but kosher 🙂
The gent who does operate the site to which I linked is a member, jackinnj I think? I've dealt with him several times and he was great, even sorting out a few oddball requests I had.

yes, no pirate boards or fake components found there 😉
