Building process - The loudspeaker 1

So Christmas is coming and it would be great to build my own Living Voice Vox Olympian...

Just saying 😌

Something like that would deserve TAD TD-4001 I think 😏

I absolutely adore the design and aesthetics of living voice

And your TL2 too!

Hi Noam,
How are your beautiful speakers doing? Have they changed at all as they have been breaking in?

Have you been working on your speaker covers at all? I am interested to see what you are doing.

I have a question about binding posts.
Currently, my old speakers have two sets of binding posts so they can be bi-wired. I have Tellurium Q Ultra Black speaker cables, and the matching jumpers to the other set of binding posts. I am going to wire the interior of the speaker with the Mundorf Angelique wire. I do not think that I am going to bi-wire or bi-amp the TL-2. Should I only install one set of binding posts?

I hope you are enjoying some wonderful music,
Will

Hi Will

for some reason I can’t quo your post but I hope you’ll get to read this message anyway.
how is your TL2 build going? would be great to see some progress photos.

I would strongly suggest to install 2 sets of binding posts, maybe you will in the future to try biamping which is very advisable, Troels Gravesen also uses it a lot.

I haven’t done any progress with my TL2… but lots of other stuff audio related… Some crazy, some less 🙂 I’ll make some photos and will update soon!

Oh, I have not made any progress, unfortunately. All of the slabs are cut to size, next I need to router all the holes.

But first, I have to build these two big slide out pantries for under my stairs. All the parts that are cut out also.
I keep having other house projects that need to be done first.
I put in a new front door, so I had to redo all of the trim on the inside and out and foyer.
I just did a bathroom project, because my daughter dropped her earbud down sink, and while retrieving it, everything I touched disintegrated.
Here’s a thankless job I have to look forward to. We are going to get a new refrigerator. The new one is 3 inches taller than the old one. I built a custom cabinet over the refrigerator. It is a huge two level bookshelf, hanging from the ceiling. The thing is built like a tank. I have to pull it down and cut 3 inches out of the middle, flip it upside down, redo the veneer on the inside, and then hoisted back up to the ceiling, to be reattached.
Where is the emoji for just shaking my head.

I have a question about measuring the size of the hole for the 18 inch driver.
I have the drivers in hand, and I know that I am supposed to measure the diameter, do I need to buy a tool to measure the outside of an 18 inch circle and if I did, how will it reach all the way out to the center of the edge? The bill of the tool does not extend that far.

Damn , that does sounds like lots of work 😑
I totally know your situation having two daughters myself.

About measuring the BMS, I just used a roll measuring tape and then made a mockup (a test) on a different board until I was satisfied that driver fits. Mind you its better to have a slightly bigger hole then a tight one. A jamed speaker driver could be a pain.

Route half an inch on the board, then Flip the board upside down and route through. Or use a jigsaw and then use a flush trim bit to touch up the rough edges.
Routing a full inch is not going to work, and it’s probably also quite dangerous unless you have a beast of a router?

To measure the hole for the 18 inch driver, I can probably make it work using a tape measure. Before that, I could use a construction square to extend the limits of the basket. And then, like you said, make a test hole first.

When I spoke to the woodworkers supply house, they suggested are use a jigsaw to cut the circle. The material I am using is 1-3/4 bamboo. I was worried about routing through that deep of a material.

The flush cut bit will only make it smoother, correct? Won’t it also follow any imperfections I have made in the circle?

Now I am worried about cutting the complicated hole for the Horn, with a jigsaw. Do you have any advice for that, please?
