You are not useless in testing, you just made an error which you corrected.
Voltages are OK. I think it is time to solder in the beads...I keep my fingers crossed. Another check with careful eyes won't hurt.

Soldered. No holy smoke and everything seems to be good.
I would test other parts if everything ok but I m too nervous I can short pads especially with L1 and L2.

I know BNC is a standard connection for dac's here diyaudio.
My front and back panels (not polished though) coming soon with friend of mine visiting. Since holes of bnc and rca fitting are about the same I can add bnc to my pre/dac combo. And I should then add BNC to my squeezebox duet, don't think it is too difficult.
What would be good connectors to add and which plugs should I use ? As well I ll do my own cable just for the sake of DIY throughout.
What do you think ?

Thx Bob. I know this method, but problem is to make straight and even brushed finish. If sponge is going to deviate from it's way scratches will follow.
I ll try it anyway and give it a clear coat at the end.

Made several mistakes in a row - this is what I was trying to get to. Sorry, having one of those Fat Finger days.

You sure kow how to build up suspense ! I would love to know results. I am not at home now but I use a Tyco type that is specced for 500 times mating and it is insulated. Best type for mounting in a metal chassis. Please be aware that is it 75 Ohm coax and BNC you need, not the 50 Ohm versions. For making your own cables you need a crimping tool. The solder type BNC male connectors are less good than crimp types IMO. I use ready made cabling but also crimped some cables when I had access to a crimping tool. Since 75 Ohm cabling is/was standard in analog video one can look for "video coax cables"...but check the 75 Ohm issue.
edit: found it.

Thank you JP.
I will try to plug dac some day later, as my system in disarray. I have to think about combining few components under one hood so please bare with me 🙂 am will do my best to test sound asap. I would ask for advise on a subject of component placement. Please see pic below.
Leftmost box is a LDR based passive attenuator with remote control and switch option. As well I can add "soft"start board associated with this pre- in this case it will control power on and stand by for all boards here

Thanks, Bob. Very helpful. What about adding updates for latest part recommendations? For example, ceramic for C17.
I'll let JP make that call. I'm not completely clear on what updates go beyond the base/stock build. I lean toward a separate thread for tweaking (till more successful builds are posted) to avoid confusion, but the group can decide.
SUCCESS AT LAST !!
Replaced Q2, C17 and R7. Populated C34 and C32 - C31 not installed. The base build is alive with published BOM parts, so I'm happy. Let the tweaking begin. 😎
I suspect I fried Q2 first time around and also had C31 in place. I'll add some definitions dealing with that area to the first post.
So JP, I take back 1/2 the nasty things I muttered to you under my breath in the past few weeks.😀 I'm keeping the rest in reserve - just in case.😉
BTW: The first piece of music I am playing is William Walton's "Crown Imperial March" It's the music often played while graduates are getting their deplomas... for real, just happened to be the first audio icon on the desktop. 😀 Very full and impressive bottom grabbed my attention.

I'm claiming "Stunning".
Second piece is Bizet "Symphony in C" through a top line Mackie Satellite Pre and DT-770 phones. The clarity is amazing and the stage nearly perfect. Can't wait to hook up speakers tomorrow.

Today is a beautiful day. Bob is a vigilant supporter of this project and of all people his DAC wouldnt sing. I am happy to read another V3 is sounding good.
Not too sure what I must be worrying about, the taking back or the keeping in reserve...

Hi all, hope you are having a great xmas.
Got my DAC up & running today, thanks Phil for the parts in time for xmas.
I've only had it running for 10 mins so no comment on the sound at this point,
I'm just pleased it works. I'm using it with a win 7 pc & Jriver mc, the sound was very distorted until i turned the volume down to 50% on Jriver, i'm not sure why. I'm using Wasapi & couldn't get it to work on Asio.
One thing i nearly got caught out on was the SAL-RPM caps, At first i took them to be tantalum bead caps & assumed the stripe was +ve but then realized they are electrolytics.
Q2 was a bitch to solder, i was worried that i'd overheated it but it seems to have survived.
Thanks to J-P, Subbu & Phil for a great project, Ive had the proper kid with a new toy at xmas feeling & the boards are a work of art.
