I'm also working on another Hi Fi console for the bathroom. This gem was already installed when I moved in but has a power supply issue I need to fix. You can see where the negative power conduit is missing its connector. I should have this up and running soon.

Well of course you haven't, its very high end. Its a Stewart which we all know is quite rare. It's only AM because I'm not wealthy. Some day I hope to acquire an AM/FM but for now only a dream. If you have the means I highly recommend you pick one up.
Are you aware of any Hi Fi events in this area or shops that tinker like the members here do? There seem to be many TV repair shops which I haven't seen much of in years in the Orlando area.

Nope. SDX7 is on the side because it wouldn't fit on the front. I then used that, driver toe-in and XO to make it integrate. A whole lot of things fell togther nicely.

The cartridge is ceramic. I wouldn't play anything but 78s with it. It also means the "phono" input is essentially an Aux.
What are the tubes? Picture.
Those 4" alnicos look a lot beefier than needed for a 3k XO, can you run an impedance sweep? I'm guessing you could take them well below 1k.

I do not have the equipment to do an impedence sweep, I don't think anyway, what is needed? I'll get a pic of the amp and tubes. Any idea what year this thing is? What would you need to see to tell? Camera charging.

A computer, a jig, and WInISD? (i use fuzzmeasure on the Mac) or manually, a signal gen (i always used free sw), a couple resistors (same ones you'd use in the computer jig), a voltmeter and an amp. You can likely get away with a signal gen & a voltmeter if all you need to figure is Fs (which is sufficient here)

A number of ways. A patent plate (usually built 1 year after the highest year). Date codes on the tubes or speakers (what are the numbers on the speakers?). Kinds of tubes in the amp. Mono or stereo.

What would I need to do to play 33 LP albumns? Change the arm or cartridge? Not worth while? Get another turntable and replace this one altogether?
Is the amp what you thought it would be?

A more modern TT + a phono preamp.

If it has 2 6V6 and only 1 output transformer, yes. Given that mono amps don't go fra (unless i find a second) there is a chance i have a mate if you are mono.

The numbers on the speakers are:
4" - 584028
137207
8" - 581001
137152
Maybe Bacon665 has this equipment as I only have a multimeter from that list.
The tubes are:
6EU7 - Magnavox Made in USA
6BQ5 - Magnavox Made in Japan
6CA4 - Magnavox Made in USA
Thats all they have on them.
No patent plate anywhere I can find but there is a wiring diagram.

That would be my call.
6bq5 are not original (i'd guess). 1 or 2 output transformers? 6EU7 could be voltage amp + phase splitter in a PP or could be 2 gain stages in an SE.
There are no other tubes? Is the tuner SS?
dave
Is CTS a brand of speaker? Is Alnico a brand or type of speaker?
There is no tuner, only the turntable. This thing is small, 39" wide x 17" deep x 26" tall.
The 2- 6BQ5 tubes fit into sockets marked "6BQ5" in the case.
There two smaller transformers, one larger (painted black) transformer, 4 tubes, and a capacitor. Thats all there is on the surface of the amplifier.
This also has rpm adjustment for 16, 33, 45 and 78. What part is ceramic that makes this more of a 78 player? I have few if any 78's anymore but a whole pile of 33's from the 50's and 60's.

Yes, CTS is a brand of speaker. Chicago Telephone Supply. They made a LOT of drivers. Dave can tell you more.
Alnico is a type of magnet. Has near cult status.
Have you been able to tell is the rig is mono or stereo?

Even though two RCA style cables leave the turntable and plug into the amp, there is only one wire feeding the balance potentiometer. Two leads out to the Speaker 1 and 2 terminals. Also there is one common terminal for both of the negative leads returning from the speakers. I'm thinking mono.
its called StereoPhonic mono. (i think) or at least on the old RCA victrollas it was.
Anyways its a single channel fed two both the left and right speakers. usually they werent phase matched so some systems were quiter then their friends and the owners never knew why.
I dont have the equip to do a frequency sweep (yet) but from what the other dude has said your feeding a signal sweep into the speakers SO... you mentioned you had an mp3 players?
If we can get somebody to record a sweep into mp3 (or FLAC/ogg if you want a decent measurement) and attach it you can play it in the mp3 while you do measurements.
Theres nothing wrong with that balance potentiometer other then the value is too high my guess is that its 100k or 10k i would swap it with a 1k or even a 100/250 ohm pot and attach a 5k 10k or 100k Metal oxide or wirewound resistor to the center tap This will even out your volume issues when its in the center.

2 output transformers, stereo, SEP amplifier... that amp is screaming out to become an RH84.... i've never seen one without a tuner, that is novel.

You sweep we listen
Hi bacon665
If you want a sweep program there's a good one from NTI Neutrik test instruments.
I have the file send me an e-mail and I would be happy to send you the file.
It generates sweeps sine waves pink and white noise as wave files that you can use however you care to.
Mark
P.S.
I think I can do one better anyone who wants this :
