Well the Admiral certainly out-ranks the Magnavox. In each of its two enclosures are one ~7" and a pair of ~3" above it in a vertical line. The 3"ers have a 4uf cap, are wired in series to each other and in parallel to the 7". All 3 drivers are in one seperate enclosure within the console that has damping material on the sides and rear. There is even an oval cut-out at the bottom the length of the plywood thickness. It sounds a little fuller than the Vox using the 7020 but both sides are working fully.
I'll get some pictures later after I remove a few layers of dust from the amplifier.

TeleFunken
I guess eastern Tennessee is the console capitol of the US. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of this unit by the seller but it does look nice.

Weird i stopped getting email updates about this thread.
If all the tubes in that console are made by telefunken its prolly worth it in the eyes of a vendor.
They usually sell from 99 to 150 a peice just for a single 12ax7
http://store.tubedepot.com/nos-12ax7-telerp.html
Theyre located on the other end of the state.
They even sell used ones for 49 dollars : /

I have no more room for consoles at the moment and I don't think I could bring myself to dismantle and canibalize that TeleFunken. The two I have should provide me with plenty of hobby material to fix, mod or otherwise update.

I've never been able to get anywhere near that for used, tested TFK... $20 is more typical.

I scored a Rogers Majestic (aka Canadian Philips) on Sunday for $10. I had it broken down and in the burn pile before i remembered i should have taken pictures.
A pair of small (nice) OPTs, a pair of 50BM8, and a pair of the 8" Philips AlNiCos that do well on an OB.

Blasphemy! Is it cold enough to be burning priceless classics so carelessly?
$10, rub it in why don't cha. How do you come across such deals? Ya got any pictures of the OPTs or the drivers? I have yet to remove and photograph the Admiral's innerds.
You married?
Im surprised you bought two.
but i guess you can listen to the new one while the magnavox is mutilated.

Actually lighting the burn pile will have to wait until the monsoons come. Tinder dry, fire hazard extreme right now.

Every Sunday to swap-n-shop (giant boot sale @ the race track/oval down the mountain)... 1st console in 2-3 years.

I can take some

I am the man of this house and thusly I run the show. I'm single too which makes it easier and my kids don't care how many I collect.
I'd love some pictures Dave to compare to what I have. I'll get the Admiral apart sooner or later.
My kids.

lol cute.
to answer your question about admiral.
They started in chicago in 1939 as a television and radio corp.
They were one of the first to mass produce televisions.
During the war while most companies were switching to ac wall powered radios most admirals still ran on dry cell batterries and so they had a high demand by the military. Alot of their funding was wasted sponsoring CBS world news raido broadcast each sunday.
in 73 admiral seen that some areas were leeching profits so instead of having multiple divisions all finances were split and theyre became many admirals who were mostly sold to japanese companies.
rockweel international acquired the rights to the company and the name later that year. they were sold to another company after that and im not sure who and then in the 80's they ended up with under maytags name.
Montgomery ward inherrited the crippled admiral and its debt which pretty much sent them under. with the debts paid and almost all their employees gone it was sold to home depot in 91.
Through the 90s they have sold large appliances through home depot and smaller radios and electronics under the zenith name.

Fresh off the Craigslist Console search in Knoxville, home of many consoles apparently, this Philco beauty:

imma tell you know those are a pain in the A to repair simply because of the push buttons you pretty much have to buy another one for parts unless you can find them on ebay.
I wouldn't even try to repair it rather leave it just the way it looks and re do the source, amplification and speakers depending on what it has to begin with. Some of these consoles are real works of art on the outside.
It would be nice to have that in a living room but use a computer or MP3 or CD as the source with the appropriate amplifier and maybe even use the existing drivers depending on what is in there. If they are old and done then replace them with something the same size and location or a complete remodel. $80 is more than I wanna pay but I'll keep an eye on it to see if they lower it.
