opa1641 is an excellent choice, I would certainly use it over a ne5532a in this app unless you have a ton of them to use up...
... So who is putting one of these together? should fit nicely in a 100x100mm pcb, all for 10 @ $13 from pcbway 🙂 The day has come where we can get a pcb's for the same or less than the parts costs for proto's.
Looks great! I think I would like to give this one a try. Looking at the power requirements, I have a low noise, 15VDC , 1A power supply ready for this... would you go with something like this to generate the voltage rails: http://diyaudioprojects.com/Chip/Opamp-Phono-Preamp/DCW03-DC-DC-Dual-Output-Converter-Datasheet.pdf
Also, do you have a recommendation for C4? Maybe a poly ecap as you were suggesting?
INF146
now why did Bews not used a jfet in there design? or did they? cost? performance?
Most of the high end japanese MM phono-amp designs I have looked at all used jfets.
Has Doug Self ever used a jfet in the front end for MM phono-amp?
Fun stuff, talking about obsolete media = LP's
RE: Bews - I could be wrong, but the low-res nudie pics say no. The first are from the modern LE series phono stages and the second is from the older Mistral.

Thought I'd through a more modern Burr-Brown option into the ring. The OPA1642 makes an excellent single stage MM phono pre-amp.
What about using 2 x OPA1641? Seems like you lessen the chance of crosstalk that way.
Sorry, that's a solid-state device... maybe a not so interesting way to get -15VDC.

It's up to you. For the reasons previously stated on this thread, crosstalk is pretty much meaningless in a system like this. But using single op amps would allow you to try more esoteric op amps options which currently only come in single packages. For example, the OPA827.

Ah, yes, you were very clear in post #52 about this. Thanks.
All that being said, keep an eye on the new op amp offerings over the next few years. There's a lot of really great JFET, CMOS, and super beta BJT op amps being introduced by several companies.
New super beta BJT opamps? That does sound interesting - the LM144 is a personal favourite of mine it would be great if someone did something like that again 🙂
