edit: just noticed that D6 is backwards connected.

lineup - the poetry side of

okay
kubeek
no hurry

the dream and hope and looking forward to
is greater than the realization
.... most of the time

show me a human without any dream & hope left
and I will see a poor human soul

.... no matter how much many money, houses, companies and stuff
this person may own
still

will be very poor in compare
to a human, owning almost nothing
- but with a cherished dream, a vision in mind
while trying make ends meet, day by day

So I finally managed to build this amp, and I am really happy with it. It sounds really good and has enough power to drive any kind of headphones.

Measurements showed that the amp has really high bandwidth (it clearly reproduced sine even at 1Mhz), but I didn´t have any problems with stability what so ever.

So feel free to build yourselves a good headphone amp!

Today I connected it instead of headphones to 8ohm shelf speakers, and it works even with those. I tried how loud it gets, and when it starts limiting, the volume is definitely not normal listening volume, but more like for a home-party. :D

And all that from 15V and 150mA quiescent current.

With 150 mA quiescent current it can give up to 300 mA of peak current, i.e. output power on 8 Ohm can be 0.15*0.15*8 Watt only.

For better linearity idle current has to be equal to max output current (in such case current through a voltage follower will be always the same); for better energy saving it has to be a half of a maximal output current.

I will try to make a simulation.
Think I have all transistor models.
There are only easy-to-find devices in this unique HeadPhones Amp.

Because I took parts from your amp and molded a different shape from them. ;)

Q: "Wavebourn, how do you design your thingies?"
A: "Easy! I take parts, mix them together, then throw out what is not needed. What left is the thingy" :D

I did some spice.
What I wanted to know is your 'trick' of using one BJT (BD139)
in parallell with the IRF610 in the output stage.

In this post I attach my schematic for my Test Setup.

In next post I will attach one FFT, Fourier Harmonics Analysis, Comparing test:
With and Without Wavebourn BD139.
Bipolar parallelling MOSFET in output stage.

The Harmonics spectra will change.
Not much. But nevertheless a change.

As can be seen, with the BD139 bipolar in parallell with the IRF610 MOSFET
we get a bit more 2nd + 3rd
and a bit less 4th + 5th harmonics.

Wavebourn,
the headphone amp would fool my imaginations, on the other hand the power amp would not.

Why?
Please contribute!
That amp once scared me when a water run recorded on CD. I jumped turning around...

Thanks Lineup!
Can you try it on higher frequency, like 10 KHz?

Wavebourne does this little amp of yours resemble lineups distortion spectr?? It will sound great, ive just purchased a pair oh senn hd600 and looking for a new headhone amp. I think im gona build this, dont think it will have any problems driving my senns.

Lineup you have this cunning ability to dig up these useful threads, great.

I dunno, I never built it. :D

I built more powerful things with similar approach to current amplification stages (voltage follower loaded on feed-forward counter-modulated current source). And they really sound the best I ever heard.

What's an impedance of your headphones and max power you need? Why I'm asking, because the best spectra is when an idle current equals to peak current needed for your headphones. However, for power amps I use half of it, to save on electricity (including a conditioner).
