What if we just jack the rail to 70V? Would that fry the Jensen's? Or will it rolloff before the 20kHz found by papa. Higher rails are easier to do than to put in new pucks, new thermal solution, etc.
Jensen doesn't have anything with rails
little (ok - enough) something with output swing , but that's minuscule
What exactly are you trying to achieve?
Edit: Something worth considering. Assuming your existing speakers are 90dB or less, for less than the price of 2 massive heatsinked cases to deal with over 450W of dissipation, you can buy a pair of 15" Audio Nirvana drivers which are around 98dB/W
A little extra schwing never hurts, and is what I'm after. My source can put out more than 3.5V on a good day.
My speakers are spec'ed at 88dB but I question that sometimes. Currently a Nakamichi PA7 makes them happy but that's 16 devices in AB so that's 32x the switching distortion of 2 hockey pucks in A.
I do fuss with the heat so I am exploring a couple of options outside of the 500mm deep HF2K cases which present a real space issue. A chiller may see a worthy commission here.
If you already have the transformers then put them to use but bear in mind with more voltage you will need more current to access it's full use which means more heat which means bigger VA transformer, bigger heatsinks etc things start escalating very quickly.
At some point it makes sense to reevaluate things and consider what the other options are.

Try rebooting your pc/phone.I hear ya.
OT: why can I not go past Page 40? I cannot get to Page 41 no way no how.
Yeah 42 is the answer to everything.2pD:
Just restarted: nope. Just have to wait for Page 42 to come around. Happened before.
how about a DIY hybrid? toobz + SITs
I appreciate what Papa has put forward.
I however would not mind a DIY iteration of something like that Maxonic Sd-015, 50W/ch, tubes in the front and SITs (2sk182es) in the back. I cannot spare the change they go for and DIY would be more fun anyways. So if one of the big brains here were to pick it up and develop something for us greedy boyz to follow it would be greatly appreciated 😀.
maybe for starters one of the power members could start a separate thread as a brainstorming session? 🙄

If I was thinking of doing that I'd build an OTL SET connected to F4.
a hybrid like Maxonic sd-015?
I already know i will be building balanced F4 monoblocks but the current preamp is planned as a BA3 FE. the things slowed down for me because of a new job but I cannot help thinking how a tube/tube-like version in/out might be the step after the next 🙄.

A question for Mr. Pass:
Are you planning to write an article on the IXFN140N20P amp?
I am very excited to know more details after watching the BAF video many times over! Guidelines on the PS and the rest of the component values and ratings would allow me to decide on topology: PCB or turret/p2p and thermal needs: mono, stereo or speaker stand.
Thank you!

I thought he said in the video that the information will be published but anyway that has always been the case before. I am sure he stays mighty busy and us greedy boyz have to be patient. 🙂
You could easily go ahead and build the amp based on the schematics/information provided here.
I'm also interested for the article to be released. It could be a little while though, with the release of the F7, I'm sure Nelson is very busy.

Greedy and impatient, yes. And proud of it!
I've put an order in for parts hopefully they arrive soon.

Trust me, wild horses are pinning me back as we speak. BUT cooler heads must prevail as the devil is hiding in the details, especially with so few parts.
Although papa has already said a regulated PS is nice but not necessary, I also read - from YOU - that low ripple on the bias showed benefits in your sims, hence your regulated bias supply. I have enough bench PSUs to supply +60 at 6.4A for both rails and the +4.7 for bias, all with <1mV ripple. So should I just do THAT?
Also, I'd like to know how the 192W dissipation is divided between the 2 IXFN140N20P's so I can decide to go either with one piece of K216x500mm in a stand or 2 pieces of K200x225mm in a case.
Perhaps everyone can weigh in while we await papa's wisdom - For his sake, I'm hoping he is busy making money selling amplifiers!!

1) Yes, good to start playing (you can do CRC or Cap Multiplier later). For bias use the Zener/Trimpot setup I posted in schematic a few posts back
2) Equally
Even after the article is released, there is no guarantee PCBs will be available, so you may as well go to town and put something together if you already have the parts.

Has anybody been thinking like me.. Some TO-247 part within the same arrangement? Maybe a different sweet voltage? I'd be willing to build that..
Can we have a Schade Mini? lol

I have the same hunches as you, so that's cool.
But diving in on the heat sinks is what's holding it up - both sources are in Europe. With shipping charges through the roof and the likelihood of not being able to recycle them, I want to be close if not right on therefore held off until there is more literature and discussion, even though most of the parts are in hand. Your sims helped a lot also - thank you!
Although papa mentioned 6L6 is working on PCBs, I am leaning toward terminal strips since I plan to use film for the 1K feedback cap. Again, pending any potential surprises from the article.
