@Russellc I had a similar question about soft start in another thread.
...
I plan to use Mark's soft start board, but will likely use two ICLs as he suggested.
I used a single soft start for 2 transformers - the single ICL seems to be coping well enough
Hi
how important is to use one 50 uF motor run cap per rail? I have some 25uF TDKs so I could use two in parallel per rail - would it be okay?

Two reference grade burn in discs in my collection. Tony has the 3rd one.
Yeah, but mine is digital... it won't play on the turntable.... Here it is. on the "digital shelf"... synchronizing the bitstream...
We should create an "Amp Burning Service"...

Hmmm.... I'll have to search, I do have the CD. but searching for an LP is gonna be a project. A big project. I might have to retire... ;-)
BTW, what's that preamp/integrated? to the right of your picture.. You can let me know privately... we don't want Señor Alek to know. ;-D

Tony, you’re waging quite the psychological campaign wooing Mightiness over BBBSITs!! Might be an idea to woo Gianluca for the required 10U heatsinks…🙃
Just by way of additional reassurance for those with/considering SIT XA252s, I swapped the 6.2V Zeners I’d put in (along with 16V caps) for 8.2V a few days ago and since then the twins have played 12 hours a day without any issues.
Haven’t heard non-SIT XA252s but…these SIT implementations are special amps! After swapping the burnt bits etc and setting bias and offset I thought I would hook them up to a pair of ‘easier to live with if they smoke’ speakers - so I connected a pair of Monitor Audio RS6 Silver speakers I’ve found it difficult to part with over the years and…spectacular with the XA252’s. Bass was best I’ve heard from these speakers and that midrange…not a match for the LRS+ but I’m going to have a tear in my eye when these amps go to their owner. Will have to stop procrastinating on how to get the two chassis I have sitting in Florida here and get them in so I can hook back up Ben Mah’s amps. SITs are magic indeed.
So I can understand Tony’s campaign aim 🙃

Nelson is sitting on big pile of Tokin SITs, now worth likely half a mill
I'm anyway used to wait, him getting great idea, me later Babelfishing unnecessary complicated iteration

as I wrote lately, really liking idea of getting to 2025 with BigBadaBoom

5U/500, bingo for XA252 stereo and should be perfect for BigBadaBoom monoblocks
Since I'm not gonna be the one to build such an amp (1) ( RT? ) I still want it. I need to ask him nicely. The poor guy... all I had to do was deal with UPS... our Macho 252 is a frequent flyer by now. ;-)
But, recall RH's musing about cooling an Aleph 1.2?
I think we're gonna need some active cooling as the amps get bigger... perhaps a 5U chassis for the amps and a second 5U "chassis" with the heat pipes (water cooling) to provide the additional heat sinks and perhaps the power supply. Then there are some cooling towers around... Towers Of Cooling Power.... the Badda is the amp, the Bing is the cooling unit.
HOWEVER, the current Macho 252 SIT works in a single 5U 400 (2), Therefore I venture that a Big Badda Bing amp would fit into a pair of 5U 400 monoblocks. So, @Zen Mod I'm assuming such amp would use a pair of SITs per channel? No need for 5U 500 boxes?
Oh, speaking of RT... You know, he has both the 252 SET and SIT, in the same room, at the same time... I'm curious if he has compared them.
(1) I'm sticking with the small stuff and the UPS bills.
(2) The first iteration, post smoke, was to enhance the cooling of the amp. i ordered custom top/bottom plates from @Gianluca with LOTS of ventilation, RH added big heatsinks to the internals ( see pictures in a previous post) and then I measured it with five thermometers. The 5U 400 is indeed capable of keeping a stereo 252 SIT at working temp. If you add a Babysitter then you drop the temps to well under 50C! So, that's quite doable.

Oh, @rhthatcher
Take a bow man.... you deserve it... here's a beauty shot... prior to the 2nd smoke... when I was testing it for thermal stability. I'm not quite sure I had the babysitter in place yet.

I got an SUV, you know where they are.... we can meet at SFO. Grab some Lagunitas on the way back.
But now NP knows what I look like... and with my way of introduction to him and your fame, we might not make it North of San Rafael.
I'm always welcome at SR, but under condition of not staying longer than 3 days

as imagined, pair of SIT+Puck pair in each of two OS phases; bridged OS
5U/500 - natural home for 2 SITs + 2 Pucks, whatever arrangement is
take steel covers if you're cheapskate
if still expensive - well, move to Europe
best to be rich, then it's irrelevant where you live
