Babelfish F8

I found the small bag of SJEPs + some Toshiba's.
There are two R100 and four R125. On R125 is written 13mA on three of them and 14mA on the last.
The Toshiba's 2SK3497 was meant to be the current source transistor in a J2 build instead of waste SJEPs for that.
Think it was DIY name "EVUL" .....something like that.....that offered them matched for the J2 build. They are probably for no use in this build.

R100 or R125 for F8?

EUVL, Patrick

my stance is that IRFP150 is good enough in place of Mu follower

but, that's me

as written several times, I spent some time with Elephants in Africa, they like to fart, and human hearing apparatus becomes much easier to please afterwards

(lower criteria, all in all)

use pair of R100 for B. F8, leave precious's quartet for something in future ....... who knows what Guys can bring to the table

I will use the IRFP150 as Mu follower and the 2x120R100 I have.
I tested both 120R100 using the small Peak tester and both are recognized as N-channel JFETs.
One of them was recognized as "bi-directional"/"symmetrical" so tester could only tell which leg was the Gate. The other one the tester had a suggested for G,D,S. Probably these devices requires more "juice" to work as intended. For now I take for granted that both SIT's works 🙂

IAIMH is better guy for that task

I'm far from realistic, not doing DB tests, measuring everything with frequency of foot tapping and my listening sessions are always done with speakers which are making amplifiers happy

anyhow, here's the fact - I'm posting new ones only if I'm happy with outcome

1. I always wondered, what's the heuristic for deciding between various IRFP's (irfp044,150,240,250...) in OS?
Usually i see IRFP240's used, so just curious what's the "gist" of how a designer approaches this, which one he wants.
I know they are distinguished mainly by Vds, but even lowliest one satisfies our voltage rails, so what's the catch?

2. Mosfet degeration resistors - main thing to note is the 1:2 ratio right (0.28:0.6)?

3. R7-R8 there is the two 33R's in series, it is just to get 330/66 = 5 right? Because E24 resistor values are awkward, and otherwise closest single is 62 or 66, so that's why there is two?

Sorry for questions, just genuinely curious and trying to learn more about everything when i can
But i dont think i managed to ask any smart questions 🙂

1. IRFP150 is practically 2pcs of IRFP240 in one case; can't exploit double dissipation, but twice xconductance is good, effectively replacing pair of 240, so no need for matching

2. Papa's recipe xeroxed, shaping of THD Spectra

3. 66R or 68R in that place, irrelevant ........ so value wasn't a reason ......but dissipation reasons; cunning to use 2pcs of 0207 resistors, instead of 1pc with bigger body

I ordered two sets of PCBs. One set with all components and one set with only smd's mounted (I am lazy).
I don't think ZM has mounted my boards yet......but who knows 🙂
But have anybody been able to see what the differences are between F8 and F8bb?

bb is a fun, will do reality check in week or so

I'm expecting and I'll be happy if :
  • if it works
  • to get not worse sound than with already presented

........ so, hopefully, there will be bjt obtanium in place of JFet unobtanium

speaking of input

regarding SJEP availability ............ broken Food Replicator just arrived in OPLDF, my plan is to tweak it a little :devilr:
