"Usually all my chassis are floating."
Not good practice Bas!
Your amp would not pass the CE MARK For safety.
"CE marking indicates that a product has been assessed by the manufacturer and deemed to meet EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements"

I know...I promise to be better in the future! 😀
In fact I've started to ground them (more often) since the "pressure" I got from forum members.
Previously my amps were in wood only mostly.

Chassis and signal "ground" are coupled together by all kinds of stray pathways, capacitive, inductive, even some resistive, that add up to enough for a voltmeter to interpret. It's all the stuff that's not on the schematic. No time is wasted in pursuit of a puzzle.
Always the best,

Hello Bas,
Use dht rob website to find out about grounding.
If you wanna use a separate rc stage as power supply for the input stage . You should take care if you make R 10 Kohm you have to make the cap smaller than 100 microfarad.
Don't have the info here but it is something like the 10kohm will make the time for charging the 100 cap to long.
Maybe better use a tiny choke here.
Greetings,Eduard

Good!!!
But you must sit in the naughty boy seat for 10 minutes.😊😊

Regarding the extra RC stage for the driver. It's 10k->10uF on the RH84. In my zen clone I have 5k->10uF.
Hello,
The French man writes that when you come closer to the circuit the product of capacity and R of resistor or choke ( TC) should go when you come closer to the circuit.
You don't read a lot about this.
Greetings Eduard

Never trust or believe anything a Frenchman says! 😉The French man writes that
Hello Bas,
Maybe if you make a clear circuit diagram you could ask Doede what is wrong. I think he will see it in a minute if you tell him the strange results .
Ditch the solid state diodes.
Make the build in such a way that it looks easy where everything is going.
It will be working before the weekend is gone.

The 'signal' part of the chassis was not grounded. For some reason a potential developed between the chassis and ground... When I grounded the chassis. Problem solved.
Hello Bas,
You mean you have the desired currents with the coupling caps installed?
AND how does it sound?
Greetings,Eduard

Yes!You mean you have the desired currents with the coupling caps installed?
It sounds very promising.
Got a takedown on the Elvis song in one country. No idea how long they will be online.
Hello Bas,
Usually after some poking around the circuit will need some time to settle down. In the beginning some things could sound a bit edgy/harsh but that won't take more than an hour to become less " noticeable "
But what i usually hear from people that even with a preamplifier the sound will become much more refined, spacious and you will feel the urge to turn up the volume.
What you could do is find the burn in tones and some other tracks from the xlo cd from a few decades ago. I think yellow/orange " cover "

- Home
- Amplifiers
- Tubes / Valves
- Another SE EL84. Following this schematic. Grid stoppers yay or nay?
