And what did we buy today?

Speaking of tools

Got me a Milwaukee track saw today with a couple of tracks and track joiners plus track carry bag... clamps not available in Australia yet on back order
Come in at over $1100 🙄 without any batteries lucky my toolbox is full of red plastic already(Im a handyman)

I switched to Dewalt and also still use some Milwaukee tools. The put the Bosch through its paces, it finished like a champ.
The oddish coloured one is over hyped (and priced) imho.

I ordered a new phone from China, and I was hoping it will get here fast.
Then I got this email which I responded to, and... well, am I being crazy?
Here's the correspondence without the name of the company:

Dear friend,

Thank you for your order.

Now we will ship to you by DHL, after your package arrives in your country, you need to clear the customs yourself, do you agree?

Note: Shipment via DHL, we will truthfully declare the sales price, we recommend that you check the import taxf policy of your location, to avoid unpleasant experience because the tax is not in line with expectations. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

Please let us know your opinion.

Looking forward to your reply!

Hello.

I don't understand what you are implying.
Are you saying that you need a confirmation from me before you send the package?
That is really beside the point, and a completely unnecessary process, DHL have quite strict rules they have to follow on imported goods. And there is nothing Ulefone as a company can say or do against the laws in my country.
DHL usually send me an invoice a little while after they deliver the goods at my doorstep, there is absolutely nothing ******* as a company can do to prevent that.

If you are withholding my order because you want me to answer this completely pointless question:
I refuse to give you an answer because I object against the completely pointless process of reaching out to me and thereby delaying the shipment of my package, which I really need because my previous phone that I have had for over 3 years is starting to fail me.
Therefore I must respectfully decline, and I wish to have my money refunded IMMEDIATELY so I can purchase a phone from someone else that will not delay the process.

If you already have shipped my phone and you where trying to make a statement, but mistakenly formulated it as a question as well as put question marks after the statement:
Very good! But can you please refrain from formulating a statement as a question, because some people may take it the wrong way, and get annoyed that you are delaying shipment FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER!

Long story short: I refuse to answer that question.

Dear friend,

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Because we ship from China, after the package arrives in your country, your country's customs will require you to clear customs, such as submitting information, paying customs duties, etc.

I know that.

If you had written:
The package will be transported to you by DHL, we are not responsible for any costs that may incur related to import customs and/or taxes.

So that is like a formal but polite way of informing the customer that you are doing things the right way, and that there will be some extra cost for importing the goods.
And you do not have to wait for a reply, which is the most important bit in my view.

So anyway, are you sending me the phone or not?
I need to know because I really need a new phone, and while I absolutely refuse to answer your question I still need a new phone.
So have you sent it? Or am I going to have to argue with you about the money and the pointless delay before shipping, while I wait for a new phone from another company?

Dear friend,

Sorry that the content of our email did not satisfy you.

We don't want to delay the shipment. We need to confirm the customs clearance with the customer before shipping. Because some customers may not agree.

Hello.

It is not a matter of customers agreeing or not, it is not your problem to begin with.
******* or any other company for that matter, does not have the capacity to change the laws of a country simply because a single customer is being ridiculous.
I presented you with an alternate way of phrasing the message, so that you merely inform the customer that there is nothing you can do about the import procedures of any single country. If you sent me such a message I would accept that there are some costs that are outside of your control.
Why I'm being difficult with this simple question is because I am firmly against the very principle that you delay the shipment by waiting for a reply for a question that should never be asked in the first place.
I am neglecting to inform you that the question is phrased overly direct, and may be considered slightly rude or condescending as well but that is not my main concern.
This (the extra cost because of import fees and taxes) is something that you should simply inform the customer about, because it is outside your area of responsibility.

I am trying to help you understand that if you word the message differently, you can make the customers accept (though perhaps somewhat grudgingly), that these costs are something you have no power over.

I have paid for the thing, and I really like that brand, but I do perhaps get slightly triggered when there are completely pointless procedures that some pencil pusher has enforced, What if I was a person that never check my email? Then I would never get the items I ordered.

Got me a 200ml syringe, a bit of a plastic hose, a 2L milk carton and Honda power steering fluid.... and I flushed the power steering system myself, in full. Looked complicated, but it took around 20min. I begged ( quite a few...) car mechanics to look at the noisy power steering that was driving me nuts... but they all want to charge the full amount for service, and are too lazy and ignorant to flush the power steering system themselves. They keep saying: we couldn't find any problem. Basically, all they do under the scheduled service is suck out (pump out) the engine oil... and put the new one in.... I do not believe they even changed the oil filter...

What a bunch of criminals. In the end, I had to do it myself.

I also got the ramps to drive the front up, so that I can do an oil&filter change myself in the future... I'll check and confirm if they replaced the filter. Judging by the colour of the new oil... I am positive they left a fair amount of old oil there as well...

I feel your pain. Once they got your money and anything goes wrong, its insult to injury when you must deal with a dam voice recording. All while your anxious to receive your goods already, by yesterday.

I finally got the box, after re ordering. It took a week and a day after all.

The Titanic 10" sub's rear assembly is so chunky that I had to shave almost 1/4" off so it fit.

In a pinch some of the commercial boxes are made way way better then they used to be, 1" baffle, better joinery and the mdf board is stronger, if your in a pinch and cant make one. The spring connectors are complete junk though.

The last piece just got made out of stock at this shop. That's what happens when they run a special on something that was $200 more a week ago 😀
Finally, after so many years of wanting one 😀 😀 😀 Will go awesome with my MX-1
Roland MX-1✅
Roland JD Xi ✅
Akai FIRE ✅
Akai MPK Mini Play MK3 ✅
FL Studio license ✅

I watched my taxi industry die a fast death when we got ubbered 6yrs ago. It took three years to die a complete death. Then it was settling into a new state and then down with injury for 1yr 3 months and all the while yearning for the MX-1 and JD Xi. With renovations happening now that bandages have come off, it's a great time to get the studio desk rebuilt with all the cords and such tidied up, and I have been a bit indulgent with meagre income and making use of things like PayPal pay in 4 as well as Zip to stock up on some awesome digital equipment to make reggae dubs and covers of old gold Bollywood

My DJ equipment had to be left overseas in storage. I still yearn for a controller. Is that being too indulgent 😀

My first ever TT was a Dual. I bought it new in Leeds back in the 80’s. It lacked bass, but was very reliable.
I never bought a new TT since the. I got back to vinyl a few years ago with my current TT, a Pioneer PL-2 that I found on ePay with an unknown cartridge. It has a couple of cosmetic scuff marks but otherwise looks good, but it groans every time I use it and now the sound fades in and out which is very irritating. It can be fixed and one day I’ll get around to it so I can give it to one of my kids but I’m after my 2nd ever TT with a warranty in order to avoid the messing around. I like the semi-automatic behaviour of my Pioneer so I want any new TT to have auto-stop and lift at end of play. I thought about the Rega Planar 3 but it’s very manual and I can’t be fussed moving a belt to change speed.
So I plumbed for a Dual TT again. I believe I’m trading off some convenience for performance but that’s OK with me.

Today, a 16x16 (LEDs and cm) panel of intelligent RGB LEDs; I'd like to hook it up to an ESP8266 and package it to resemble an interocitor from the sci-fi classic "This Island Earth" and either use it for intergalactic communications or displaying alerts of some sort. Also, a "tactical" shoulder bag big enough for a 10" tablet, velcro flag patches since the bag has place for them, a 30 cm plush shark, and a strap for a Garmin Forerunner GPS watch, all from Aliexpress.

I bought a "Acoustic Guitar Resonant Pickups Delay Reverberation BT Mic Preamp Piezo Pickup" Has everything but the kitchen sink...

The actual reason I wanted it is because it includes an amplifier that drives an exciter, which is mounted onto the guitar body, DIY.

Yamaha has a complete system which I tried at GC and it's kinda neat, as audio gimmicks go; makes the whole guitar radiate the ambience. A 1k$ gimmick; I'll try the one for $50 and mount it in a disposable guitar I already have, that I dont mind drilling holes into.

Maybe it works, maybe not - they claim to at least have EQ'd the signal to the exciter to minimize feedback: shows the plot too, which indicates someone thought about it. If good, I'll put it in one of my better instruments; maybe hot rod it with a 25W Dayton exciter too.

Not that it'll output 25W from a single 18650 cell.

I found an old Phillips curve tracer.. the pm6507, I have a peak atlas for the small signal, this will be a nice addition.
It can deliver 3kv for diode breakdown, so must watch out. 10 volt collector can reach 20 amp.
It comes with four different transistor fixtures.

This week was a used stream deck for $100 and a 30" monitor. The monitor was the type of stuff I usually pass on, old LCD plus missing stand, but 2560x1600 for $40 seemed worth it. With a hastily made stand made out of those ubiquitous grey steel shelving brackets it's up and running.

Yet another portable radio, this time a C Crane Solar Digital after hearing a sample of its AM performance on a YouTube review. Amazing performance on a slowly fading transmission technology.

Stromberg Carlson Integrity Series Component Ensemble Model: SP-911 M T
stromberg carlson console SP-911MT 2.jpg
Made in 1961
Turntable: Garrard RC-88, (with stereo pickup)
Amplifier: ASR-433, (12 Watts x2 @20-20000Hz @ <1.5%THD)
Tuner: SR-445 AM+FM dual tuner.
Speakers: RS-404 acoustic labyrinth (12” 2-way, 2 pcs.)

The speakers in these consoles are fully separate enclosures, mounted by soft clamps into the console woodwork. Really nice system.

This single speaker also was had. It was in the garage and could be switched on and powered by the Console via a switch seen above the amplifier. Both channels fed it, each through a 15 Ohm 5 Watt resistor. - so mono for the garage. Home-built and very solid. It looks AND smells old, Gotta love that. Maybe a 50s-70s electronics hobby magazine project, but the drivers appear in excellent shape. Easy to see them with the ruined grille cloth removed. For scale it's a 10" woofer. Unkown brand. Who has the pattern of vents in the center like that? I'm sure I don't know.

Can't wait to check the amp and tuner in that Stromberg Carlson, no doubt they will need capacitors at the very least. Have not tested the speaker yet.
