am still on track to repairing my diaphrams have some epdm rubber which is suitable the trouble is i cant get the mylar to stick to it ,have tried contact cement/super glue e6000,various epoxy resins the lists goes on nothing seems to hold, when i removed the old rubber it was stuck down with some type of superglue anyone got any ideas?. cheers

When i was a kid my dad had a gas staion...tire fix we used a primer..this was 50years a go....but it sounds like you need to prime the two peaces.....i would go with PVC plumbers primer ...an the PVc glue may work all so....not shoure on the pvc glue.. but the primer well work...on rubber.

tyu, yep i think your right its going to need some sort of primer first, have contacted a specialist adhesive company with my requirements am waiting for them to get back to me, the factory build definetely used some sort of cyanoacrylates glue with i suspect a primer .henry tape doesnt stick to the epdm rubber its going to need a specialist solution and i am not buying anymore adhesive have tried 27 different types so far! all crap, makes me laugh the number glues that say it will stick to anything

Finished gluing at last, hope they don't fall off. Have cut the mdf to shape needs de-burring. Putting the foil on should be interesting. Have used 294 magnets. Won't bother corrugating the foil. Not had to up to now! can't wait to see how it compares to my many designs.:) Hopefully. Will fix the membrane in my usual way with wood and screws, no rattling etc.

The magnets cover an area of 36" x 18.25" and the size of the speaker will be 4' x 2'. It is a full range speaker and does not require a crossover. Depending on the impedance of the double sized membrane, I just use resistors to get 4, 8 and 16 Ohms, so you can use it with various amps,so no problems driving these speakers!! Hope to have it up and running by the weekend. If the magnets don't fall off, first time I have glued the magnets on. Didn't need to before.

The magnets are in position in speaker frame Frame size 4' x 2'. Magnet area 36" x 18.25".Will mark out the diaphragm tomorrow, should be fun!! I had trouble with the magnets when I moved the MDF frame, but only 21 magnets came unglued could have been a lot worse. You have to be very careful moving the frame.:(

To Brian T.

I really feel sorry for Your misfortune.

I think that Your biggest problem will be to get the right tension that the membrane should have.
The tension is set to a specific value to let the bass membrane produce the frequencies it was made to.
In other words, the resonance frequencies are set by the tension.

Good luck!!!

Tyu!
I see You found one of my pictures of my Apogee Duetta II's! hehe
See You at the planar asylum! My moniker there is J.Lindborg.

Made a foopha marking out the diaphragm, will have to do it again. I must be going senile! Lost a day.I usually buy my magnets from china and I usually buy at least 1000.Even tho' the postal cost is high, they are still cheaper than anywhere else! Although first4magnets sell40 x 25 x 10 mm ones- the price 50 for £20.63. Although you could probably get them cheaper if you buy more, hopefully.

Have finished my double diaphragm based on your photos on this site, and I am very pleased with the result sounds great. Am running it in will send photos later today. I was without my computer for a few days. So have a lot of catching up to do.The two membranes are in series and the total impedance is 9.6 ohms. So I didn't need any resistors. I have only used one input instead of my usual 3. As I said it sounds terrific. I joined the two alu tapes up out of phase, and it didn't sound great and I nearly called it a day with the design. But when I wired it up in phase it sounded wonderful. It was nearly as sensitive as my neo design of the same size.

built 2 of the epsilon diaphragms on the same diaphragm and have wired them in series making it 9.6 ohms total impedance as the only size mdf was 4' x 2', and I had a perforated sheet which I had removed from a previous design so I fitted 2 epsilon diaphragms on it. Will be sending photos later today!!

great will be interesting to see what you have done,am still in the process of repairing mine has taken a long time to source a suitable rubber for the suspension and am still testing various glues for joining it to the diaphram and am disposing of the factory mdf frame in favour of an aluminum one which will hold the rubber suspension by mechanical means which will then enable easy adjustment of the tension of it as well as a relatively easy method of replacement something i believe the factory should have done as it then makes it easy to replace in the field as having to send the whole speaker back to greece is just not a practical solution.

Vary cool....10ohms .. better SPl... Lot of info on all wood frames with magnepan an Petter gunns mods....I well be puting my Apogee bass an hi-mid ribbons in all wood..i have done this with Acoustat ESl panels...The pressboard smears the sound...the wood can sweeten the sound, wood can eat bad vibes...of panels thanks for info jamesbos

double epsilon clone

Here is my pics as promised. Will be building partner when I get more MDF and perforated sheet. Will also be building same design with smaller magnets, well not so wide 19 mm as against 25 mm., may build 3 epsilon diaphragms on my next but one build. Will see how things go.
