Altec Lansing

Mostly for 8ohm but I also want a more modern cone (but 1st get the TS params and any other specs). GPA have been very unresponsive over several weeks so I phoned to get some answers...which I did but no response to the rest...it's getting a bit tedious.

Don't give up on GPA. They are a small shop and tend to let things slide off the table when they are busy. However their products are worth the pain to acquire.

Sorry for slow response. i'm new to forums and am also flat out holding down a job.
I am persisting with GPA and in the last weeks have gained a little info from Bill.

My first concerns are to get my 515s modernised and unless there are any decent options available in Australia, buy the recone kits form GPA. Next will be to tune the cabs that I have. These are a mixed lot of uncertain parentage but definitely not Altec genuine.

How did you determine slot and how did they turn out. Ill be cutting wood in a week or so.

I PLAYED_WITH a few sims of an MLTL for the GPA604III with the idea of a Hiraga cabinet clone. I really like the look of Jean's clean industrial design. The total bottom 3-sided slot area matches the area of a 6" pipe port. Some room gain effects were factored into the sims. There was some discussion of using removable shims for adjustable lift of the cabinet above the bottom plinth to provide changing the port tuning. Round-over of the bottom cabinet edges and the plinth edges should perform like the rounded flange on a pipe port.

You will want to use the exact T/S parameters of your 604-model and run final cabinet and room gain simulations. I'm happy to further share my sims if you decide to continue in this direction, but stuffing material and technique play a major factor for MLTL performance.

I am interested, as my current designs will port to the bottom of the cabinet.
