I had completely forgotten about that forum.
Thanks for the tip.
I haven't had a lot of time to play with these drivers for a long while.
They have been with me for many, many, years. I seem to have misplaced the crossovers so I've decide to build some. No sense in re-inventing the wheel though.
Here's a crossover for the 604-8G in open baffle worked up by Dennis Had of Cary Audio and Panomaniac of the Altec forum/moderator here

Thanks for that. I'll have to look closely to see the differences between the 604E and the 604-8G to anticipate where the values may have to change. Definitely a good starting point.
Once again this project got sidelined. Thanks for the reminder to get my butt in gear.
I dragged my Apogee Duetta Signatures out of storage and all speaker projects took a back seat to their amazing sound. I was all gung ho until I sat down and listened to the Duettas and then I was thinking "I can't touch this!".
I like your set up, my neighbors put up with a lot, but I think your setup would definitely get me on a first name basis with the local constable.

I forgot about this thread. I've acquired a few more parts since the last time I postes
Hey AA, love to see those pics. Just one question: What are those funny looking plastic thingies on top of the 1005 horn?

Love the driveway picture! Finally, the right listening distance, and no annoying room reflections.
A perfect day!

Aloha AA. Good to see you here. Also love the driveway pic, we never did that when I was over at your place.
As you can see, AA has a very impressive basement full of Altec and other fun stuff. And always a fine selection of beers. 😀

Those are an array of little horns, I think they are Foster. They used to be in a lot of consoles and such, have a green or blue plastic cover over the back. I'm sure you've seen them,Just one question: What are those funny looking plastic thingies on top of the 1005 horn?
AA is using those as a sort of multi-cell tweeter. And it works! I heard 'em and I measured them. Pretty darn good.

I am about to build an pair of 828 cabs, have two 805B horns to use with them.
I have been reading this and many other Altec treads.
Found the User Board about a month ago. Joined, but it would not let me post.
Today I logged on for the first time a week or so and it told I was banned.
Any ideas here as to why that board is so flakey?
Also Greg, you are a great resource here and on the other forums when ever you post.
Many thanks.
No, not really other than they have other forums that are very band-width intensive that can keep even us long term folks locked out for long periods of time plus have read where other 'newbies' have had lots of problems joining, posting, etc..
Me and some others have tried repeatedly to get Todd to move to another website, but he won't even respond to our PMs, much less consider it, so it is what it is and about all I can suggest is have the moderator contact you. That said, I just went to his webpage and Steven, the Hostboard owner, has PM'd him many "potential spam registrations" to contend with, so maybe spammers are somehow disrupting it enough to make new accounts 'impossible' to use. Not being familiar with how it all works though, no clue really what your problem might be.
Anyway, sent John a PM.
You're welcome!

edit: Well, I tried, but after awhile it just gave me the all too often:

Some quick digging and I discover that the 604-8G is an 8 ohm driver vs. the 16 ohms of the 604E. Shouldn't be too hard to work backwards from there.
Thanks again.

Thanks for that. He's done everything but build the box for me.
Hmmm.. maybe he'd fancy a trip to the west coast? He could stay at Cal's place while he builds my boxes. 😀
Jeff's page should be bookmarked on everyones computer as well, especially when working with 604-605 Altec duplexes..Lots of great helpful info there.
