Greg doesn't like the Onken/Ultraflex cabinet. He's the only person I've met who does not. You pick your poison.
OK fair enough I have started cutting yet. 😉
I notice the box he shows doesn't make use of the bevel at the ports. Tell me your thoughts on that.

The big Onkens I heard did not have the bevel. Dave's Fonkens do. I don't know what's the diff, unless the bevels don't make much difference for a woofer.

I've said I didn't like the early 416-8C in the 360. I've said elsewhere I don't like the long port ones because they 'color' the mids too much. I've also said elsewhere that the same or better damping can be had with a single large vent MLTL that's easily tuned, so why bother with all the extra woodworking and compromised tuning option except for its 'look'?
Frankly, if you're going to build an Onken/Ultraflex, best overall to build Thuras's patent application reflex cab that it's based on since he used a bunch of easily tuned tubes around the driver's perimeter. I've built several and they do perform extremely well as BRs go once the vent length is dialed in.

I'd like to see that. Do you think we can talk Cal into building one?
Yeah, the 360L Onken is really meant for the 416-8A, not the C

I've been doing some serious thinking
A thought has come into my head
You have to change your mind while you're living
It's just too late after you're dead.
How about a Cal version of a Stanley Screamer? Perhaps more aptly named a Stanley Thumper.
The 416C's with a pair of 604-8H's? The 604's have the 416B as the bass so I wonder how that would work.
Hmmm...

That has potential. I toyed with that idea here ...

Oh man, seeing that big BL scoop gave me a speaker woody.
Oops, did I say that out loud?
Damn you Carl, now you got me thinking.
On top of that my wife hates you already.
Cheers.

Yes Cal build that scoop! 416 + 604. Use the 604 horn as a tweeter and put a midrange horn on top of the scoop.
OK this is getting crazy. I originally thought I would put 2 of the Selenium woofers along a with a 604 and make another set of monsters. Now I think I'm just going to buy a mansion and put all the big woofers, 604's, 1803's, 511's, 811's, all the tweeters and oh, have I mentioned the subwoofers yet?, into a big room and just kill myself with music.
I think I better just put down the pencil and walk away from the drawing board.
I hear there's a leak in the main building where I live so I'll go have a look at it while I re-adjust to reality.
This is too much for one guy at this time.

I admit, my wife did do a double take and gulped deep when she first saw it. However after listening to it she fell in love. That cabinet has a big clear dynamic sound with a whole lotta punch! A single 604 in a cabinet half that width would be impressive. I am toying with buying a new pair of GPA Bill's 604 IIIs in a test build.
hehe, I can't help myself...
I am really happy with the 604's in the Flying V and their octagonal cabinets but I guess I have itches that need to be scratched. I think I really need to take a step back and think about how many projects I want to take on and what goes into each. I am a hoarder so if I retire now, I might, I said might, build them before I die. That's a sobering thought.

Now you did it, got me thinkin about starting yet another destined to be unfinished project. In my dad's garage are a pair of 605's if I remember the model right. I would love to bring em home but alas the WF say's no way not a 3 foot wide cabinet by that flatscreen. Funny she dosent mind the 24 inch by 6 foot high Maggies sitting there now and the big sub hmmmm.
Any thoughts? I was raised on the green Altecs and miss that real as life sound.

It's the thought of losing the Maggies, its tone is a real chick magnet. They sound flat/'plain vanilla' to me.
