I found them at the Steeles Ave location of Active Surplus in Toronto. This was several months ago, and they had 3 or 4 of them for $75 each. It was actually one large heatsink that t I had someone cut in half to make two. I wish I had bought them all. As a surplus store, they were unsure of their source. I have also never seen them before or since. They were gone the last time I was there. Unfortunately.
For even better heatsink performance you could cut them in half again and join them length wise.
Tall heatsinks aren't as efficient as long heatsinks so if you need more cooling cut them in half again

No way would I cut them again. If ZM says they'll be OK then leave them. They look really great the way they are.
Those sinks are great. I saw them at active surplus for months before people bought them.
Alas even active surplus is no more. 🙁

Should be fine but if you need more then you have options.Hopefully they will be big enough as they are. It was a lot of trouble getting them cut.
I think the Steeles location is still open for now. Queen is closed. Bye bye gorilla. It's too bad. I bought about $200 worth of motor run and other caps, as well as other random bits, the day before Queen Street closed down at 80% off. I'm really going to miss them. The next best thing is A1, they have more stuff, but it's far more expensive and unpleasant shopping experience. It's going to be Mouser and Parts Connexxion from now on. Sayal for this and that.

Which is what I did for the J with the 16'' width heatsinks I got from Walter Bürkhard.
(Unfortunately, the C/W turned out OK, but the 3.5'' height didn't. Had to make a bottom panel with a basement section, to fit the custom transformer from the German groupy-bang. 10''x16''x4.5'' w/d/h monaurals. Amusing part is that it turned out an amp with a suspended dampened/isolated transformer, Goldmund style in reverse order)
You don't mess around. That sounds very nice.Which is what I did for the J with the 16'' width heatsinks I got from Walter Bürkhard.

Hi, this silicon carbide power mosfet

Does anyone know of a silent fan scheme that could be used to increase cooling on a Aleph J with undersized heat sinks, or allow for a hotter biasing on properly sized ones? From what I can gather online, it seems that even a very low speed fan would greatly increase the efficiency of a heat sink by creating turbulence and helping move air through the fins. Some of the computer fans i've seen are rated at 11-12db.
claudio52 Interesting indeed this looks like a nice part with double the transconductance to ones I have currently in my F6. Maybe I have to build another F6 just to try these out! 🙂
Hi Zen Mod. What I was looking for is something that would be outside the chassis and separate from the amp. I built a "quiet" computer last year, but it's still too noisy for a listening room. An external fan circuit recipe would be great that allows the fans to be added to any amplifier and slowed down enough so that you can't hear them. No rush though as I haven't started soldering yet and, as you said, it will be OK as it is. Seems to me that it would save a lot of space and money in big heat sinks if there was a recipe for a fan set up that was quiet enough to use in a listening room.
