Sonny,
Please tell me, how and where do I connect to I2S in the new DAC?
Thank you.

Be prepared.. 😉
I had all of the OPS for this DAC (3 of them). The first discrete OPS that came out was a big step over the opamp OPS. I'm wondering how much of a step up the newer discrete is over the previous discrete OPS??
Let's find out

Hi Sonny,
If I wanted to stack my two discrete OPS to enable me to use them both or compare, would it be too much for the DAC OP to drive without affecting performance?
Thanks

While the old one is good and originally did not have issues and was satisfied..
Still, to be honest, there is no contest between the two.
We did not find any need to make direct comparisons..
(More than swap out in place, which took not more than a minute or so)
(And we did it repeatedly)
Ciao, George

You are comparing the original discrete shield (that followed the opamp based shield) and the latest shield with the gain stage modules, right? BR, PerWhile the old one is good and originally did not have issues and was satisfied..

Joseph, I remember you did some nice measurements of the first discrete output stage (AK4490 USB Dac with dsd support.). It would be interesting to see how the new one fares, could you run some analyses for us?
Yes, I could. I do actually have quite an amount of data about the new/old output stage, and new / old dac..
I do not have the direct comparison 'charts' referring exactly to your question, between the new /old stage on the same dac.
I'm also traveling, so can not have easy access right now. Next week..
I could tell my impression, but it will be much better with data..

Can you please make one post with all info about new DAC..

This weekend?
After 150 to 200 hours of break in. Finally the dac with 4 gain stage xlr finally opened up.
Analog. Clean. Detailed. 3d. Truly hi end stuff. I spent so little time tweaking it. And it sounded very good already.
Great Dac Sonny.

USB DAC V1.2 I2S port
I2S connector J8.
For using the I2S input we need to connect to the J8 10 pole IDC connector.
The Level is CMOS 3.3V
Pin 2,4,6,8,10 is GND.
pin 1 is a +3.3V which is also used for the Samplerate converter SRC4392.
If you choose to use the +3.3V please feed it through an ferritebead and a 10uF X7R capacitor to GND. it is aloevable to draw 75mA from the +3.3V on the J8 connector.
Pin 3 is SDOUT
Pin 5 is SDIN
Pin 7 is LRCK
Pin 9 is BCK
This I2S port run as a slave at up to 192KHz and 24Bit. So any source should supply this port with BCK and LRCK to get it functioning.

Hi,
Anyone can tell me the pinout for J3 and J4 on the new DAC OPS?
Thanks
Do
Pin 1 is +5.5V or at least 5.2V
Pin 2, 4 is GND
Pin 3 is +15V
Pin 5 is -15V
Regarding stacking two OPS on to of the DAC is possible but the loading of the DAC will be to low and the sound signature of the DAC will change.

Hi Sonny,
Will it do Native DSD up to 256?
Thanks

Hi. I have finally finished my DAC and it is outstanding. For the first time in some 35 years, my CDs sound better than my LPs - and that is no mean feat. Well done, Sonny!
Hi
Is there a message in this thread describing the interaction of the individual parts?
Which circuit boards do I need to achieve what?
To the explanation:
I have a music server with USB port. I'm looking for a DAC. I have both (HD)-PCM and DSD files.
Thank you!

Hi Sonny,
The new DAC is really doing a fine job - the best I have ever heard! 🙂
The link to firmware for DAC with simple frontpanel is not working. I installed firmware for OLED panel and for DAC with OLED panel. Adjusting volume is shown on the display, but the DAC is running at 100 %, not responding to the adjustments. Any hints? 😕
All the best, Erik
