hey ace, about how much did you spend on all of your building materials, not electronics but the actual stuff to build it with? I would kill to buy your plans lol

heya X hmm with plexi here i can only buy a certain minimum amount due to wastage in off cuts at the plastics factory cos this stuff aint that cheap lol i paid about $100 for a peice of 8mm thick plexi for the size of 2m x .5m and 3mm x 2m x .5m, the smoked plexi costs alot more unfortunatley but the smoked plexi would look hot, u can also get all different kinds of grades and colours but be preparded to pay, im working on a way to colour it soon, somthing cheap and efective, as for the plans ill have them for sale soon in january is the proposed time and they will come with a guide, after i make the plans i plan to make a new model (time permitting) but im also thinking of doing a modd to my speakers by remaking my sub box out of plexi lol

do you have an ir filter and what is the pyramid thing made of

Heya AZ, the ir filter that im selling and using hasnt arived yet, that will take about 2 weeks to get here basically because of christmas, but ill be using some, this stuff helps to keep all much cooler, the pyramid will be made out of aluminium and will be coated in mylar inside to help reflect any stray rays, there isnt much stray ray activity in there, ive got about 1inch of light overhang behind the outer ends of the frensel so not much is wasted.

ok image size, well i have mine about 3.5m from the wall and i got about a 100inch image if not bigger, its about 5ft tall not sure of the width as i dont have the room right now to see the whole image lol, but yeah it would have to be atleast 100inches or very close to it, thats 16:9 ratio 100inches that is not the 4:3 as the 16:9 is wider then taller, mine looks great at that size, i tried it the other night with the cable set top box directly conected to it and wow it looked real nice, about 2 - 3x clearer then a tv, no joke when i see a plasma or a lcd tv in the shop now they look crap compared to this, i couldnt handle to watch one of those even if i got paid!

Hope it helped

Heyup Trev, Can you give me the exact height and width measurements of the stripped panel? My buddy is starting an enclosure based on that 7"er...

Heya brainchild how's thing's? i was thinking in u actually the otherday i found a site that has your monster bulb for $12, hit me with an email if your interested on the bulbs, ok the size well i still have mine in its surounding frame, i didnt take mine out of its frame because i didnt want to risk any cables breaking or so on but the size of the frame is 106mm hight x 165 length, i recomend to keep it in its frame, what i did with mine was just cut the white frame that clamps to the lcd so that light passes through it, it doesnt give u any image distortion at all and its easier to mount, if u do it this way u wont need any screws to hold it into place but make up some 1mm thick alloy strips and just paint them matt black or white, i painted mine white to help reflect the light abit as u can get red colouring with black paint on such a bright light that close to the lcd, so what u do is make up the strips to create like a track for the lcd to sit into and the thing is as solid as houses, or u could rout out a grove.

P.S ill try to borrow a cam bud, but i can asure u the resaults are excellent, ******* cam is the last thing i needed to **** me off lol, ill try also to set up my web cam and see if that will take a pic of it , even though it will be a small pic atleast u can get some idea.

man that rocks

that is so sweet!! Ill be putting my projector about 4.5 meters from the screen, so it looks like i can get an image at 130 inches. I did the math and it looks like i can get all the materials i need including electronics for about $700us (about 550 euro) so that is awsome. ill keep you posted and again ace keep up the awomse work and your words of encouragemnt.

Thanks buddy anytime, that price sounds alittle steep but if u are adding modds to it like neon lights and so on it adds up in the cost of things prety fast, ive been looking at the figures of the cost, probally it should be around the $600 mark but that will depend what gear u are buying of course and what country your in, most of my price is shipping, well about 1/3rd for what i paid, the plexi adds it up too, i think if u made one out of wood and no doubt wood does come up nice if u know how to finnish it in a nice way u could build one for about 450 - $500, ill be making plans for the wood one up soon too and maybe kits for that aswell, the wood one should be abit smaller aswell.

All the best on your project buddy

price

well i was estimating at about 150 extra for building parts but that might be a little steep becaue i might just make it out of some nice wood (that could bring the price down to about 70 for building parts) the only other prob is that the ballast and lamp kit from alan at diylabs.org is $150, mabie i can get the HQI and icecap somewhere else cheaper. Thanks

OK are u in the states or the eu? i hear u talking in euro's and dollars so im abit lost lol, i take it also your going to use the 250w hqi lamp, just make sure u are carful with the heat on the lcd as its a very hot lamp (nothing like halogen but they still get wicked hot), ok if your in the EU i can get u a lamp with a magnetic ballast and the sockets for about 70 euro thats excluding the shipping but shipping in the EU isnt so much.

As for the wood that should cost u no more then $25

price again lol

Im in the states but i was putting up a euro price for all of you guys who are in europe. i am looking to use the 250w and probly get some of that ir glass from you 🙂 , also what kind of material did you use for the light paths and the projection path (im guessing its aluminimum) and about how much did you pay

Well the alloy i had laying around, thats prety cheap its just 1mm thick sheet alloy, about 5 euro's for that and i didnt use all of it on this ive made alot of other stuff too for people in the past with it, ok the light engine is made out of ally but the outer housing is plexi, the projection tunnel from the lcd to the mirror to the projection lens is the outer plexi casing, no heat is here so no problems, plexi can take alot of heat but with it being close to the bulb expect it to melt or deform, it would have to be right infront of the bulb for that to happen so dont go making any filters with it will u lol, ive got 2 peices of 3mm plexi to stop my frensel from worping, it isnt hot enough there for it to do any harm to the plexi and it acts as a uv filter, i didnt add a uv filter to my projector because the bulb i have has a uv stop built into it so there isnt much uv radiated out of it but with your 250w mh u might want to get one as they dont have uv stop, not the diy lab's one anyway. I can supply u with one of those ive only got a couple though so first in first gets lol. I can also supply u with the right condenser to use also and soon ill have the reflectors in stock.

ok guys a small update, ive been making and designing the psu and ignightor box, it has 2 12v 1200mah power suplies in it and the ignightor with the main power relay that gets triggerd on and off via the modd i did to the controller card, so all can be turned on and off via the remote, ive also been doing some wiring harneses for various items, 1 being the light box another the ballast that is now mounted in its box and ive also done the wiring for the ir remote sensor, the psu box should be done in a couple of days, it was a real headache to design but i got there in the end, it will more then likley be filled with holes like the ballast box mainly for looks not so much cooling, a fan is on the outside of it that will push air in the psu box and exit into the rest of the projector case, ive also modded the controller card as mentioned in a previous post, unfortunatley the underside of the pcb pics didnt turn out too well but ill post the better ones for u to see how far i went with it, also in the controller pics u will see 3 pluggs that ive added, they are for relay pulse for the main power realay, the standby and power leds to be at the front and another for the infrared remote receiver, also u will see the small micro relay ive added to make the standby and power leds possible, also ive wired it in such a way that the controller pcb doesnt take any load for the modds wich means this way i wont be taking power from a place that will be needing it and therfore the controller will run in a much better fashion, anyway hers the pics, ill post the psu box on the projector base first from a few different angles then the controller card modds.

Pic 1

P.S sorry this first pic realy is crap so u will just have to imagine the psu box there lol
