Hi ACE,

First of all I would like to say thanks for all the pics and comment.
You are doing a great job.

Just a question:
I saw you used the original Lilliput window to hold it in place. How did you mount this to the outer tunnel?
Is it glued?
Same for the fresnels?

Heya buddy, all i did was use a few strips of thin plexi to make up like a barrier so the lcd and frensel sit against them, they cant move forward then, the back side of the frensel pushes on the lcd frame from the pyramid, wich is pushed on the back of the pyramid at the rear where the condenser is, its all sitting in place and cant move, there is enough room this way for exspansion aswell, and nothing can get damaged and all stays well aligned.

I hope u get what i mean lol

Heya Fonzki, ive played SOF2, Battle Realms, Quake 2, Moh 2, and quite a few others on it in the testing stage and there was no problem with ghosting.

Generally if you see any ghosting while watching tv on a lcd you will see it in games.

G'day ACE

I also have read the entire thread on your pj project (took me 1 week to read , I have 3 children ages 6, 3 & 2 lol).

Firstly for all the people that have bagged u ACE, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME (Darren Hinch rip off 😉 anyways enough of that shite.

Im the type of person that loves to mod.
Examples are:

Small fold chair attatched to front of pram + push scooter attatched to side of pram, that way all 3 of my children are together and saves space and money 🙂

Computer in a silver tool case that sits ontop of my 17" CRT, for LAN's, this way only one trip from car to building + easy access to all components + safety from children "grabbing things"

Fitting 15" LCD + computer system inside a gutted 17" CRT, even better idea than the above one.

Ahh its all good lol, sry getting carried away, just wanted to show u that i understand & appreciate the time and effort that goes into DIY projects.

After several minutes of rambling i actually do have some questions for u ACE.

1 I definately would like to purchase your plans.

2 As I live in Australia, in your entire project how many parts will need to be modded or converted to function properly if i bought the parts from u. Reason im asking is here in SA a ballast for 250W MH costs 220bucks and the globe costs 50bucks, big money doh! (will investigate how to make my own aswell) Just trying to cover all courners 🙂

3 Hope and pray u still have a copy lense for sale, if so i have money ready 😉

4 I regularly read a comp mag called ATOMIC. A few issues ago showed plans on how to make a HTPC. But it was just a box, mind u it did everything hehe. What i want to make for my family and my mother inlaw is a true HTPC, which does everything including a huge screen, thats where u fellas come in. I want to combine your projector with something like a shuttle box comp system (size of a shoe box). I want to encase both together in a stylish setup along with an automatic screen that will be mounted on a selected wall, be remote etc. This way there will be minimal fuss which suits my mother in law just fine lol.

Lastly (for now anyways hehe) just wanted to say to u ACE that your work is impecable, both research and practical. I believe if someone wants to build something i thought up, that to me is the best kind of flattery. As long as u have permission and dont sell for self profit etc. And who knows maybe latter i might come up with a revolutionary idea (NEVER close your mind to anything)

An example might be from this link http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserfaq.htm#faqtoc

If we could implement laser tech here, no heat, picture a mile away will be just as good as a picture 1 metre away woohoo. Just a thought.

Anyways i have indeed enjoyed this entire thread, i love being around people that look outside of the square, well done everyone, and ACE as a lot of people have typed you da man

hey there ace... i have read your thread and i am very impressed with your fabrication of your design.. and although a few peeps were shall we say adverse to your design or ideas i think its a great and beautiful thing you have made there!
😎

but the best way to silence any opposition would be to post some reasults in my honest opinion.. :yikes:
the diy builder group now have the opinion that a small lcd would be silly and a larger lcd would be the most appropriate since you have greater pixel density ( not a technical term) per inch of projected image.
even though normal progectors in the market use 1.3 polysilicon lcd's

but all in all, i think personal rifts are getting in the way of good science and sharing of knowledge .. whcich is why 99.99% of us are here to do.

perhaps posting bad results would seem like a let down .. kinda like the crappy ending of the lord o the rings after watching all three movies!! ( 9 hours for that ending .. gosh!) 😡
cos everyone here has been holding and hanging on every word of this thread. :magnify:
but if the results were bad and people felt lied to .. then i guess it would take a man that is better than me and a bigger man at that to admit to being wrong and to recover from such a set back.. a man better than i.

personally, i am not really bothered if the results were any good or anything really as i think your design and your innovation and use of new ideas is perhaps the most inspiring thing out of this thread. :smash:

if the results were bad so what? its been a great thread where i first started i was a newbie and at the very end (typing this post) i feel i could buid a projector from scratch if wanted!!!

and i have you to thank.
:cheerful:

but send the pics.. anyway you can..
please.
:emoticon:

balal arif.

the diy builder group now have the opinion that a small lcd would be silly and a larger lcd would be the most appropriate since you have greater pixel density ( not a technical term) per inch of projected image.

Well that depends not only on pixel density but also magnifacation, a smaller lcd will have to be more magnified more then a large lcd, given that, 1.3" poly si lcds are far more dense then a 15inch lcd if you wer to blow it up to the size of a 15inch lcd, but because it has to be magnified manny more times then a standard 15inch lcd the poly lcd works out to be about the same desity on the wall, thats why they take so long to make small lcds, they have to match the density of the larger ones and even try to make them better. trust me, if the small lcd route was crap, no manufacturer would be going that route, the lilliput is a very dense lcd for its size, typicaly the same as a 12inch 640x480 lcd, thats in its specs, and works out to be about the same projected pixel size on the wall.

The problems with alot of peoples veiws is a lack of hands on experience, unless you own a lilliput lcd and measure it up against a larger lcd projected at the same image size, ( with the same reso), only then you may measure or may tell a difference between the 2, and i can tell ya it's a very small difference at that as ive seen both in action here right in front of my eyes.

Lack of a camera is stopping me from screen shots and time, im very happy with my results and a few have seen them in messenger on the webcam, although being a webcam its not too clear, they could certainly see the brightness and was suprised. Right now plans and work are my priority, as soon as ive done more on my project ill post it up, more then likley when its done wich i hope is soon down the track. Ive run up every test in the way of stress testing and saftey, i know what can handle what, and how much different things can take, that is mainly for saftey and making sure ive built a unit to last, thats probally taken up most of my time in the later months.

I have now also 3 models on this projector and possibly a 4th and a 5th, a 6th may come latter on. Most of those details will be posted in my own forum as soon as i get that going, along with new designs regarding the cdm-t bulb, and a range of safe to use super bright diy reflectors, reflector convertions, ie using a spherical as a parabolic, (very easy to do and very efective, you just have to know how to count), and a diy electric screen.

hey there ace... i have read your thread and i am very impressed with your fabrication of your design.. and although a few peeps were shall we say adverse to your design or ideas i think its a great and beautiful thing you have made there!

Thanks for the nice words buddy, you should see the machined feet that ive just got in from the machine shop lol, you will be suprised how it turns out when its done.

but all in all, i think personal rifts are getting in the way of good science and sharing of knowledge .. whcich is why 99.99% of us are here to do.

I whole hartedly agree on that note, its a shame we get jelous ones in from time to time, and a lack of praise on ones work no matter how good or bad it is, also king ping attitudes, im the best kind of thing. Because of those attitudes imo, i dont post up too much any more, if im going to get an argument everytime i try to help someone, then the help stops lol, its that simple. It also creates too much confusion on new people, with some arguing to the death that they are right, when science actually tells them they are wrong. If we all put out heads together rather then bang them together then we all would benifit and get alot further in our designing, in a safe manner for all, with satisfactory results.

Heya Interface, darren hinch? hehehehe thats going back a while now, you must be about the same age as me then, great post btw, i guess only us aussies will understand the jokes in it and it seems you and i are very much alike in the way diy guru's.

I should be in Perth by the end of the year so ill be closer to ya, would be good to catch up in aust somtime. Thanks for the nice words buddy and im glad you like the project. Ill hit you with an email regarding the lights for a cheaper price.

Age = 37 i think lol

I guess it was a way letting YOU know not to get discouraged by negatives and treat as water of a ducks back with a splash of "hmmm is there something in what that person is saying". All of which i believe u have 😉 . (going by the way u handle negatives in this thread anyways 😛 lol)

it seems you and i are very much alike in the way diy guru's.

WHOOAAAAA!!! guru, that indeed would be great. Alas I fear not, at the moment as it stands (as i see it anyways hehe).

You get an idea, then proceed to investigate what u need to create/build this idea, then u investigate each seperate part for optimal performance etc then build.

I get an idea, then proceed to serf the net to see if this idea has been done, i find a site that has built this idea and build the idea with their help.

So as u can see i am by no means anywhere near the stage of being called guru, but thx anyways it felt good while i read it lol.

For me this is one of the beauty's of it, ive still got that to come
😀 . I do love to tinker around though so as my experience grows then so will my confidence in creating & producing my own ideas 😀

Yeah that would be cool, see the man himself hehe. No probs and once again very nicely put together projector. I have spent many many hours investigating different projects and needlest to say yours is the one i stopped at, so 😀 good one mate.

Any help in "finding a cheaper place for parts" is ALWAYS welcome lol, thx mate. Bloody hell i type to much, i will cut down as time goes on, i promise lol.

If you want to see results with a Lilliput read this

I have not had the time nor the patience to read ALL of the posts here but I think the jist of it is quality of machine made with a Lilliput screen. If so, you can see all the results you want to here at a PJ DIY European board in German.

Being DIY'ers, we only need pictures ---right ;-) Pretty easy to see what they are talking about. Many good graphics.

light box

ace,
are you able to ell us the details about your light box design..
i understand you removed the pictures since you were trying to patent it..
have you done that yet?
if so is possible for you to show some details of the design?
if not
could anybody help me out with a decent light box design???

thnaks in advance 😉

light box

i appreciate the link
thank you
but i do understand that a soup ladel for a reflector is perhaps not the most optically precise thing to use!
i was thinking along the lines of a parabolic refelector... and the only guy i know to have played about with this idea is ACE!
if any of you guys can help me out id appreciate it a lot!
😀
