Hi Theo,
If you are i2s only, there is no point using them. I am using a CD transport so they are a big benefit for me.
🙂
Some relaxing soldering/building today. After Ian’s fifo arrived I needed a small psu. Order placed a week ago with Audiophonics. Arrived yesterday, and 5vdc psu from dyink arrived today.

Neat little thing 🙂
Perhaps I get a new case for my 5v psu too, as the case I had at hand was bit to small to fit the choke 😀
BTW. Where did you get the 300va r-Core for your 12v psu? I’m unable to find a big r-Core and it seems selectronics doesn’t sell directly anymore (or I can’t find it on the site). And the biggest r-Core on audiophonics is 60va and I think it would be nice to go bigger. Or doesn’t that matter too much?

It was not easy to find a big R-core, I bought it from Selectronic, but this is 4-5 years ago so you are probably right. Just buy a Toroidal. I would rather have a 2-300va Toroidal, than a 60va R-core. Theoretically 60va should be enough, but as always, practical experience has told me that a big trafo is nice. I see no point in too big, but around 2-300 va for 12vdc - 1A-5A.
Aurender-waveio-Ian’s fifo-dddac. No Rasberry for me.
Could you please explain the connection between the waveio and the Ian’s fifo?
I want to try this combination and have all parts here plus my new LUMIN U1 😀
Is it waveio i2s signals out into J1 of the FIFO then J7 out to the DDDAC? I am sure I have worked it out now but confirmation would be great please
Dedicated PSU as well I see too

Can't you use the same PSU for the WaveIO and Ian's reclocker?

That ‘s right Simon. But don’t forget 5v and gnd from waveio i2s to J1 on fifo, pin 2 and 6.
You also need to connect 5v and gnd from dddac i2s to pin 2 (5v) and pin 6 (gnd) on J2. If not, waveio’s i2s chip will not work, and no sound.
Good luck. 🙂

You can, but then you will not get as clean power as possible. I use dedicated psu only for fifo isolated J5.

could the newly introduced Allo Shanti PSU have been a ready made solution that you could have tried in place of this PSU? Has anyone tried that. I got a chance to listen to that supply for a day and the impressions were decent. Smooth and solid sound, perhaps a bit too smooth for my tastes. Probably hadn't been run in for long at that time as it was a couple of days old only.

I'd say the DDDAC 5 V PSU by Doede is pretty clean. Why would that not be "clean enough" for Ian's FiFo? Also, does the FiFo reclocker not have its own on-board regulators?
Fifo will not be totaly isolated if you hook it up on the same power as waveio use.
Remember that waveio’s i2s isolated output is not powered by waveio, but from another source. Originally the LF-50 reg on dddac mainboard is doing this job. So hooking up waveio unisolated side with Fifo isolated will destroy the hole point with isolation, and jitter will increase.

Thrust your ears kartick.
I removed a filter from the 12V PSU I'm using at the moment, thus increasing the Watt my PSU can deliver and I already have the feeling I found the "problem".
The lt3045 is now on it's way to me as well as doedes 12V PSU kit, I will have to play around a bit with Duncans PSU designer, but I will most likely go with smooth dancers build with some big caps, a choke and a 300VA toroidal. As soon as I have everything assembled and did somoe more listening tests I'll report back, could take some weeks though.
Thanks again smooth dancer for your help 🙂

Obs Simon...don’t forget to ground i2s wiring. It’s not enough to ground only 5v.
Thanks for all your answers
I will draw this up when I get time so it is very clear what all the connections need to be
Don’t want to make mistakes
Hello,
Even central Vietnam is infested with Christmas songs at a to loud level. Instead of Mariah Carey again and again why not play Igor Stravinsky rite of spring most of the guest wont even notice because they are all playing with their smartphones. Greetings, Eduard

Hello,
Allready use the aurender with wave io with pimped power supply. My diy chassis is big enough to offer space for replacing the wave io with a bigger circuit but it seems not that sure that an improvement will be made. I will wait for Doede , smoothdancer or other Aurender users to share a light on this.
Like i wrote before a bigger ( more mH or even H choke) will give a bigger improvement than switching to a bigger transformer. Triad makes some nice so called split bobbin transformers that offer a bigger separation between powerline and circuit ( Rod Coleman tells us to use these for his direct heater supplies) t
THIS is understandable because the secundairy side is not on top of the primary side but next to it.
The right choke also offers the situation where power consumption is a steady current because the charging pulses to " supply the capacitors " with energy are gone.
So rearrange the money spend on the power supply put 75 % in the choke and 25 % in the transformer.
By the way Selectronic , the French company that sold R cores ( from India) went bankrupt some years ago.
Greetings, Eduard
