A NOS 192/24 DAC with the PCM1794 (and WaveIO USB input)

Hello Everyone, I have been living with the Cinemag implementation for a while now and have realized that the bass bloom has been made more uniform and I can sense a more balanced and evenly spaced out sound. At times I have felt a bit of bass reduction as well but I am not sure if it is the case of improper connections of the tafos. I will post pics shortly.

I am looking at replacing the Dale I/V resistors with better ones. From what I have read, AudioNote Tantalums or Shinko Tantalums are preferred by some people here. Can someone please help me with the links of sites from where I can order these. I use four boards and hence need 4 33ohms resistors. Is there a minimum power rating that I should be looking at 2Watts or something? Please help.

Here you go and I use these at 2 watt......

These are bloody expensive for a resistor. Or maybe i am not used to seeing such prices for the resistors. Anyways, is it necessary to get the 2watts or can lower wattage be used too? Whats the benefit of 2 watts vs lower? Also how much of sonic difference is seen when moving from dale to these?

Thanks

I don't see the need for the 2W rating. I used Rhopoint GG102D resistors (32.3Ω by paralleling 70Ω and 60Ω parts). These aren't exactly cheap either, but the upgrade was worth it (in my system, and for my ears; YMMV). Just search this thread for "Rhopoint" or "Shinkoh".

Agreed. The Rhopoints to my ears sound the clearest, followed by the Charcroft z foils. The shinkoh and Audio Note are also very nice. With 2W resistors note that the leads might not fit - with the 2w Audio Note resistors I had to drill the holes to make them fit.

Hello,
I did use the 33 ohm shinkoh 2 watt and no need for drilling. I did not compare them to the original ones. In the past i did use some Dales before and i did not like them. I start using the shinkoh 1/2 watt in the eighties when they were available in France and used in most of their designs. They were considered expensive then about 1.1 $ a piece lol.
The latest Audio Note 2 watt i consider expensive but the Shinkoh are still okay. You only need 4 and it seems to be a part than influence the sound a lot.
If i remember well the Shinkoh was not seen as a very high grade resistor. Some Dales had better specs for sure but the Shinkoh just sounded wonderfull.
Of course if you dont use you will not know what you are missing. The 0,1 % tolerance high tech resistors could look promising but i just did decide for the Shinkoh because of its history.

P.s just did order my first i pad so i will be able to use Aurender app and get the Aurender streamer too.

Aurender N100H is playing here now. Mmmm,,,,,,,,need more ours before sharing my impressions, but, yes it is better than my previous pc setup with Foobar.

Hello,
For the price they are asking for the Aurender it SHOULD be better. Probably there is something like burn in time for these kind of devices too.
I did '' upgrade '' the usb wave io part of my dddac already and did ask an aurender dealer if i can try one at home in the near future.
Will probably get the dbpoweramp software this weekend. Today did get 2 external HD so i will be ready to start ripping soon.
Maybe i can send you the ripped XLO cd with burning in tracks?
Greetings, eduard

Thx eduard, but I have the xlo cd. Aurender sound already so good that I prefer playing music instead.

Hello,
So when sleeping you will play some xlo tracks on repeat?
Maybe it is auto suggestion but especially the first hours these tracks work really well. Doede told me that cable between dddac and Aurender influences the final result a lot.
Would like to know if there are audible differences between ripping software. If I know your taset I can send you file ripped with db power amp and the usual free software.
Greetings, eduard

Aurender N100H has been playing for a week now. Doede is right, it is way better than my pc setup. Absolute all hifi parameters are improved. Live recordings sounds very,,,,,live. Eric Claptons 'unplugged' is an good example here. Just close your eyes and you are there.

I thought that I might be OT here yet I own two MoBos made by Doede from which one is using his SPDIF design and I'm planning to give it a go on one of my recent tests. Please excuse my intrusion but I know my answer in here somewhere in this huge (and now almost impossible to follow) thread. I'm looking for a SPDIF resistor that can be used for Doede's red (correction = blue) MoBo. As I could see, it's not included on the PCB thus can be added externally. There are many alternatives to this resistor and frankly I have no idea what I should choose. Real life experience will count at least as technical specs and I know this is the thread where I'll find it.
1-2 answers will be enough for me, thank you for help!

Hello,
I just bought the dbpoweramp software and already ripped some cd into AIFF format. I can send you some files ( have the Eric Clapton cd too ) Name a few artist you like and i can send you some tracks by mail. Just curious if you will find any difference with the software you are using.
Will test the Aurender probably in october first have to rip my collection.

Sowters are now fitted and a big jump in sound

I see for some higher frequencies there sounds like some possible ringing so might need to try the caps across the A B points

Doede has provided positions on the blue motherboard for that

I have 8 DAC modules so have others had this issue?
