Hello all. Its that time again; When I sit down and listen to my very good DDDAC I get to wondering if there is still better? turns out there is! looking around the FIFO Ultimate reclocker has been used with a raspberry PI and a NewClass D 5v regulator. for this addition could someone point me towards any installation guide.
Although I have build the DDDAC it was a trial and not something i wanted to experience again, i can just about work out the hot end of a soldering iron but not much more so if there is anywhere with pictures i would be very grateful.
Also for anyone interested I have four DDDAC boards spare form my last build along with some charcroft Z foils going for free. I think at lease one of the DDDAC boards have had the copper tracks stripped but if someone wants to try to get them running again they are going begging.

How to get even more pleasure from your DDDAC for dummies by adding additional circuitry so to say.
There are some ways to get things working and it seems like a lot of people are looking for a one of a kind thing.
Before i just have a DDDAC and a CD player, then the cd player begins having issues, so ripped the CD and bought an Aurender.
Now there are several ways to get improvement. But as usual we will end up with a collection of circuits from different sources so it takes patience and knowledge to find your private solution.
Of course tutorials have to be made to keep sales going i hope.

From what I have read the fifopi is a step forwards which is no small thing with such a legendary DAC. I also understand it's fairly easy to install, but I could do with a few pointers. I have had a few takers for my old boards, which is good, but could do with the advice.

Maybe read post # 7904 by Doede himself and chose which features you will need to make it work in your situation.
My present set up uses an Aurender ( the one that Doede used too) To use it i had to buy an Ipad for going through my ripped CD collection.
Just using a small seize tablet will be enough for me dont need any display close to my DDDAC.
Already have some light sources close to my set up.
There are a few ways to make it work. Maybe just focusing on things that will bring sound improvement and reliability will make it easier.
At first i was thinking about going the lifepo4 way but now thinking about Ian's
UcConditioner.

If all things that can be used for modifying the source material so to say to serve as input for your DDDAC would be offered by one company this company could make some kind of questionnaire that will give you the best solution for your set up.
It will be a hell of a job to make probably!!
Doede added some things that some people ( like me) not really need so they might end up with a shorter '' what to buy list '' Or safe some money on this or that and spend it on something like Ian's UcConditioner boards.
Of course if people with more '' digital knowledge '' start modifying the '' source material side) and describe the way to go the '' dummies '' will follow.

Anyhow there are not many NOS dacs available.
Doede spend a lot of time optimizing his design and he carefully shares his opinion if owners have ideas to make changes. If he thinks all DDDAC would like that improvement it is even offered as an upgrade like the Tent shunts .
Usually DDDAC owners keep it a long time.
Recently Doede start making things that would allow us to use the DDDAC in a '' different manner '' and shared the outcome with us.
Dont think there are or have been people/companies doing this for such a long time.

Something I promised, but forgot to post... During the revision of my DDDAC with the Raspberry PIs, I added an antenna to the PI board to get a much better reception then the standard mini antena mounted on the pcb. Purpose was to not connect an Ethernet cable to the sound system. As this would connect the earth to the rest of the house, which is quite dirty (I assumed) - The audio equipment has an own 230V group with a solid earth directly to the Home entree.
But... would it influence the sound? I did some testing, with and without cable and to be honest, I could not really hear any difference.
So te be 100% sure, I left the cable out and my DDDAC PI Ropieee streamer is streaming on wifi, without any dropouts up to 384kHz. I use a separate wifi hub with an own network SSID for this by the way just to be 100% sure I have full highway 😀

I always thought that the ethernet connections are galvanically isolated. I never had any hum/noise/ground issues when I connected an ethernet wire. All my DDDACs run on ethernet connection, no problems at all. I rather had issues with USB wires creating ground loops. I highly prefer wired ethernet connections over WiFi, which tends to be fussy and unreliable.
as always, the devil is in the detail 😛 You are definitively not wrong.
It totally depends on the cables used (Shielded and metal connector - or fully plastic)
and then it depends on the switch used - some are shielded, some not
I happen to have an industrial 16 port switch where the cable metal parts are electrivcally connected to earth
easy to check with any multimeter and Ohm/Beep function
I always buy the cheap ethernet cables. I didn't even know there are metal ones with a grounded shield... finally an example where going cheap is better 😀
