Ok, that looks cool! A small tall sub, might look nice standing to a tall skinny Spawn type horn for a cool 4 cabinet full range system.

whats the -3 and -6 passband on those?

also if you reverse the opening from the small to the large side how close are you to a small tapped horn?
EDIT: NVM looked back thru the thread.

But looking at the thumbnails for the TH vs TQWP looks like the th is louder with a steeper cutoof below passband and the TQWP rolls off smoother but is quieter.

Finally got the new box installed (on right)...results?

Gesh, I think it does work better than the side-by-side.

The wood is 5/8" on the taller box, vs. 1/2" on the other.

@tb
thx for the response, i did a lil math in my head and per volume they have approx the same output.

Correct me if im wrong but would a TH have a "harder" sound that the TQWT?

It seems that a TH squeezes the driver to perform more that the taper, it that what the last T stands for, does and i think perhaps the taper has a more relaxed sound?

Hi Etocynned,

I guess the best way to find out what these two enclosures sound like is to build one of each, and audition both. My guess is that once you apply appropriate low-cut and high-cut filters to establish the usage bandpass they'll probably sound a lot alike.

As to the output v. cabinet volume I'll attach a quick comparison with 1ea. of the TH @ 16 W (Xmax) versus 3ea. of the T-TQWT @ 20 W ea. (Xmax). I most highly recommend Hornresp to model and compare these types of enclosures.

The whole thing becomes so much of an apples and oranges comparison, that I don't think I want to spend a lot of time on it.

Bye the way: T-TQWT Tapped-TaperedQuarterWaveTube.

Oliver...WOW!! nice surprise! Just the way permo and I envision it.

(We went to Dr.Ds build and checked it out; post #21)

Thanks to you and the rest of the forum for the advice and design drawings/sims.

Btw, the taller box with the 4 woofers is crazy...what a rainmaker, just pouring out smooth, rich bass. The port at ear level worked way better than I thought it would, not a hint of mid range, etc.

The driver on the bottom could be mounted on the same side as the top woofer ~~ it would not be so deep in the tunnel.

The file on #64 did not open yesterday, but today it is fine...

Hi again,

Bye the way, you might want to play around with reversing one driver, it may restrict the duct too much, but it may also work quite well. 🙂
