I would say that it is correct operation. If you want to slow down the thump, increase the 1kuF across the opto to say 3.3kuF.
Look at the Singing Bush version.
My two cents
As long as there's no harm to my speakers I don't care.

Good morning Dan,
my 50W-SE-Schade was motorboating. I put the potentiometer at the input
(like suggested by Nelson Pass) and could easily adjust it / get rid of the 'motorboating'.
Or do you hve a buffer at the input?
Have a relaxed easter weekend!

Hello ZenMod,
Dan is the first man who has lost gravity for heavy classA-amps...
The sound is so good, that the whole world is standing upside down.
Oh, I forgot that this world is round and there is always something
'down under'....
Sorry, Dan! A little joke.

Many thanks to Pa, Zen Mod, Ben Mah, any the many others who supported my quest to build a full blown 50 watt Schade! It took a monumental effort and several burnt mosfets but I made it! I’m now enjoying a brief respite before, like a true DIYer, I finish my M2x!

Fugly!
Great work Dan and congratulations on making it to the finish line!
Puny speakers ... where did the sub go? ... not the little shoebox hiding behind the Logans ... the REAL one!
Cheers!

Three speakers in the pic. Currently playing are my Martin Logans. In the background are my Line Arrays with my sub just left of my rightmost ML.

well, I wasn't helping exactly
mostly teasing and mocking
I duplicated your Singing Bush current source which was of great help. Also, teasing can be helpful. It all depends on how you take it.

Looking good. Looks very heavy too.
Weighs the same as an X350?
Believe me. It’s a beast to lift!
