3-way to active - Hypex FA253 - learning project

So, when I try ‘better measurements’, outdoors or large room, I plan to do:

- far field: individual drivers (twin for woofers) at 10degree or 15degree step 0 to 90degree (2m or so mic distance).

- near fields: individual drivers (twin for woofers) mic 2cm

Do I want to do anything else? E.g. boosted woofers? Full speaker with a test set of XOs?

WinISD sim shows max power 240W (and hitting xmax) at abt 30Hz with LT boost. Based on that and with power limiters applied (and thermal protection) I thought I should be OK. I did think to apply a steep high pass at abt 20Hz to limit excursion below 30Hz. And I also got advice here to do the same.

Archimago has tested the 2-ch amp that is used in FA253 - pretty good. Test runs start from 10Hz

The tweeter has mono amp NC100 which should be just as good. Lower gain though

Subjectively, it sounds perfectly transparent. I do not even think about the amps, only about crossover/EQ setup. And I don't think I will reach its power limits even when playing very loud. I am glad I went for the 253 - not 123 or 503. I think the 253 is just right for the project.

I will be having another go at measurements in a large room (local church) end of May, hoping to produce a set with wider gating (compared to my small flat). My confidence level is very low, though.

If someone in London is willing to join and help, that would be greatly appreciated and rewarded with endless supply of food and beer 🤓
