You'll like this one, too!@hammersandwich, thanks for the links, you gave me good home works for tonight
I'm also looking for documentation about cardioid speakers. Not a lot on it. To me it seem passive cardioid is one of the most effective way of reducing front-wall reflections.
The D&D are relatively big for my room. I wonder if it would be possible with a smaller 6-7 inch woofer at the front and 1 or 2 6-7 inch woofers on the back.
Going completely active is also possible. It is done by Kii on their Three model.

Thanks hammersandwich, very interesting!
From my readings modeling such a design it's quite difficult. A lot of trial and error in all the threads... and you need to be able to do measurements in a correct environment.
I'll stick to sealed design for the moment. I've ordered Satori MR16P-4, Dayton RSS210 and waveguides... already have two R2604.
Maybe later I'll experiment with active cardiod with another RSS210 a separate box on the back. I'll keep you updated... my build will start at the end of march.

Hello everybody!
Has been quite a long time since I started this thread.
In the meanwhile I solved my necessity of monitoring in surround getting my hand on five pmc tb2+ that really do the job.
But this project was still somewhere in my mind and now, thanks to the loss of work related with the pandemic, I have the time to go on. I bought the missing parts to build a pair of those and started the wood working this week.
The chosen drivers are:
woofer: SB Satori WO24P-4
mid: SB Satori MR16P-4
tweeter: vifa XT25C30-4 with WG-300 waveguides.
The idea is still a WTM sealed box, 30 liters for the woofer and 11 for the mid.
I would like to experiment on the mids, controlling the directionality with a sort of damped U frame, I'll keep you updated on this... pictures are coming..

Thanks for the kind words ! Hope to be able to make some measurements this weekend!
Keep you updated
Keep you updated
One of the speakers is finished, I did some crossover design but outside is raining hard so can't do real measurement...

Thinking about the next move: adding two subwoofers...
One possibility would be to use them as stands for my speakers, so around 80l... or separate cubic boxes.
Now the eternal question, what driver should I chose?
I would like to go sealed, but considering also PR, go deep, very low distortion, fast, dsp with minidsp or fusionamp.
Budget around 250€ driver.
There are many drivers out there that can do this, my selection for the moment:
dayton UM12-22
dayton RSS390HF-4
Peerless XXLS 830845 or 830844... with PR?
Peerless 835017 or 835016
SS 30W/4558T00 + PR (more expensive around 380€ for SW+PR)
SDX10 CSS, but can't play that loud in the mid 20Hz
do you have some advice based on real world experience?
Thank you very much!

I'm about to pull the trigger on 2x CSS SDX10.
I like the thd measurement I found on the web, and even if it wont dive that deep, the low distorsion is a priority for this project.
It's also the cheapest on my list.
I'll try planet10 design with push push configuration:

and maybe build another one in the future...

or staying with SB acoustics this drive looks very promising:
SB29SWNRX-S75-6
SB Acoustics SB29SWNRX-S75-6 | HiFiCompass
SB29SWNRX-S75-6

thanks hifijim, i hadn't see your post when i posted my last..
did you use SB34SWPL76 or SB34SWNRX?
Sealed?
Is the project here on the forum?
thanks

Here is a link to my project
New active 3-Way, Hypex and SB
I used the SB34NRX75-6 in a 70 liter sealed box. The ideal box size would have been 110 liters, but since I was using DSP active crossovers anyway, I applied a 2nd order shelf filter to extend the bass response (Linkwitz transform). Boost starts at about 38 Hz, and I have 6 dB of boost at 27 Hz. This results in a system which is flat to 30 Hz, and then rolls off at 12 dB/octave below that

congratulations!
have you considered the SB34SWPL76-4, with +/-15mm xmax when designing your system?
