Alweit sells Japan made ones.These are made in Thailand so may be look different than Japan made ones maybe?

My guess is fake. Examine them with some magnification and you will most likely see the original imprint under the new 2sk170 one on some of them. Original ones can still be found with reasonable price from reputable sellers. I have bought fake ones also. If it sounds to good to be true you can bet it most likely is.

I managed to get 20 from a local source. I can get some more if its original. They all look from the same batch. I measured the idss and vgsoff. Most of them looked ok as per the datasheet idss vs vgsoff curves, could someone please eyeball these before I sink more money into it. Any other sure way of knowing if these are good. I dont have a curve tracer but I do have a scope.

Look at the 1 and 7 of "K170" totally different font. Look at my picture and compare to these Japanese real ones. Also the encapsulation of the plastic case is not as neat as with the real ones.
But it says made in Thailand, maybe different production line, different printing and cases ???
Don't think Toshiba would accept lower standards from a foreign plant, though.
Measure them for Yfs and you know it for sure. it's not that difficult to do.

See attached a circuit for curve tracing that everyone can build.
All you need is an accurate voltmeter.
Vary the value of the trimpot to get as many measurement points as you want.
Then plot Id vs Vgs.
There is no real alternative to verify devices than curve tracing.

In Thé past I gave lots öf current to a genuine one by mistake.It exploded and back ör front plastic case went away for some meters but after this it still continued working. I also saw the wafer. It was nice wafer.Bigger than fake ones that i bought in Thé past from futurlec

So which order number is it at Mouser for 2SK170BL (that is at stock and not obsolete), oe even any grades of LSK170 (as equivalent) ?

I could not find my DMM in my storehouse.But i checked 2 different types of genuine 2sk170bl with my Der EE de-5000 LCR meter.I measured GS capacitance at 1khz 10khz and 100khz
I checked about 10 of them and they all very similar to eachother.
