You can save money if you use some old amp and repare it with new pcbs.

You can use this simple DC protection with 40A relay (12V for car)

R470k replece 300k relay on.

Q1 needs to pass the relay coil current when turned on.
When turned on Q1 must have low Vce to prevent it blowing up.

You achieve this by running Q1 saturated, i.e. very high base current. Aim for Ic/Ib ~ 10

R4 (10k) is starving Q1.
