Quick question. If wanting to try k170s in place of uPA68H, would they go in as in the photo below? The leg's don't seem to match the LSK389 pin configuration.

Finalising after a few years in the shelf the front and back plate designs that will use for UV printing and then cnc milling..
The errors in the fonts and the lettering idents are because midlife design I decided to switch from pc to mac (bad decision..)

I'm wondering if the source has the capacity to drive the extra cables to the deck and the possibility to including some kind of buffer, obviously located in the same chassis with pre (DCG3). Never have to deal with this scenario but lately I've been thinking of acquiring a tape deck.
Yep, and a switch / relay for in/out of path selection. It's a little addon making it more complete.
For someone that's starts building it now I'd say that he might consider the size of the chassis, meaning choosing the right one which enable him to include further updates e.g. different attenuator that require more space.

Tape decks are fun. Either R2R or cassette. I use an Onkyo three head. I did not bother to install a tape loop in the preamp though.but lately I've been thinking of acquiring a tape deck.
Because I just feed its REC inputs from the extra XLR outputs of the DAC through an RCA adaptor when I occasionally record something.
I did add a REC out in my built, taken right after the input selector before the volume control. Just as an option, currently tested with a cheap TEAC I happen to own. No driving problems given the weak 800mV output of my DAC. I also added a "monitor" function. A switch to select if the DCG3 will pass the source that is being recorded or the tape output -designed with three head decks in mind. Funny thing, even the two head TEAC works with that but only as a recording/playback electronics loopback. The heads and the tape stay out. The next step was to confirm that the deck does this in stand alone mode as well and allows to measure its electronics for distortion etc.
Here is a simplified schematic for SE application. In reality everything is doubled for XLR I/O and a balanced AVC. All switches are relays. There is an additional output for passive preamp.
I have modified the DCG3 for a gain 10X.(R6=4K7).to be able drive the Nelson's F4.
Here is what I measured when playing music from a CD player with maximum volume pot. setting.
I will test using a function generator and a scope latter.
I have listen for a little but I think that the distortion is high.
Maybe it's time for p.c sound card test.🤔

Yikes, not sure I'm any the wiser! Here is a simplified schematic for SE application. In reality everything is doubled for XLR I/O and a balanced AVC. All switches are relays. There is an additional output for passive preamp.View attachment 1453975
I have a DCG3 with Salas i-select. Do you have a diagram showing DCG3 wiring and iSelect wiring points for this?
I know I additionally need a REC selector switch and a monitor switch but that's me reached my limit 🤣
Thanks
Peak Max & Peak Min look like they hit the rails. CD red book is 2V RMS max and X10 makes it 20V RMS i.e. 56.6Vpk-pk. Would need +/-30V rails to accommodate that.I have modified the DCG3 for a gain 10X.(R6=4K7).to be able drive the Nelson's F4.

I'm afraid I can't help with Salas I-select since this is not what I used. I had to design a custom PCB to accommodate XLR connectors. I guess all it needs is to lift the pot input -not the wiper or the ground side- and insert a switch that selects either the line that was coming to this point or the "tape" input. REC out doesn't need a switch, just tap it from this same line to the pot's input before the monitor switch.Yikes, not sure I'm any the wiser!
