As I predicted, the shape is not., and from the shape, it is clear which is correct.
There's simply no benefit to null testing even if you could see it as clear as a simulation.
By the way, what makes perfect in phase the correct choice if it even is?

Both speakers now programmed and running. I am surprised by the result. Subjectively, compared to the passive version, they seem hugely powerful. I did not know these could do bass so deep.
Since the 'flat' response that I have previously EQed in HFD without listening, I have dialed the below-200Hz region down by 3dB based on subjective listening - I think this is levelling to compensate for the room gain. The mids and highs sound a bit harsh at times, not entirely sure of the reason. Part may be poor tweeter, or I may just need to tilt the curve down.
Will try to do gated and 'room included' measurement of the two speakers.

With the physical part of the conversion complete, I need to focus on measurements and DSP to finish the tuning of the speakers. This will complete Step 1.
To do Step 2, the main focus now will be on learning WinISD/VituixCAD to model the new drives and cabinet partitions. I had a very modest first attempt of modelling the SB Acoustics carbon woofers vs Dayton Audio Epique and the Epiques seem to beat the SBAs hands down due to their huge excursion and small cabinet volume needs. I am also trying to find a sensible way to buy them in UK. So far was qoted 200GBP per unit 😮

In terms of the Dayton and SB units, I am sure the Dayton is a subwoofer designed for small cabinets. The SB is not, consequently it is not a like for like comparison as further up the range the SB should start moving ahead or have a better overall sound, but as you point out it will not have the same bass capability in small cabinet if that is what you are seeking.
In my experience European suppliers are good and fast. I have had deliveries from Europe faster than some UK suppliers, and some advertise discount on quantities. Even with shipping/freight charges they can be cheaper. Both THLP and Soundimports spring to mind.
If you look at the THLP website you could also have a look at the Kartesian range of drivers and Soundimports stock Purifi drivers, which maybe also worth a quick check. But the performance that they deliver does not come cheaply. You have already experienced your cheap loudspeakers can have better bass with some DSP tweaks.
The Dayton 7" Epique driver should be arriving in the early new year at soundimports see here.

I was planning to use dual 5.5in Daytons as they fit on the front baffle. Will also check against a single side firing 7in.
For this existing cabinet I will consider mid priced drivers. Expensive drivers - for a future project with a new cabinet.

Ha! One of the amps stopped powering up. No signs of life when powering on by the power switch. Tried another cable, same thing. There was no pop/spark/smell/smoke or anything. Visually also fine, everything looks and feels attached. 🤷♂️ The other amp works ok.
Disappointing.
Disappointing.
I am not sure if there is an onboard fuse as well at the input side of the PSU section?
I dont know if there are any onbaord LED indicators etc. Can you say hi to it via USB and Re load the filters or re enable the channels. Maybe it has had a bit of a bad day and lost its params?

Will check for any fuses and if visible to computer.
Noticed if I try to power it up after 30min or so, the lights wake up, but only briefly.
on the working amp the lights all go up in sequence up to the red one, then the green ones go off and the red one stays on for a short time.
On the broken one, the lights go on, then off and no sign of life. If I switch it off and on again, no lights turn on at all. If I try 30min or so later, it repeats.

This means that the fuse in front of the power supply is intact. Hope that your firmware is simply corrupted.... Although as I understand it, these modules are new and should have a warranty.Noticed if I try to power it up after 30min or so, the lights wake up, but not the red one.
Hey! HFD on PC could see it, so I reloaded the filters, updated limiters and the unit woke up! I had to re do the device settings to re-force the correct input and it seems to work. Thank you for your tips!I am not sure if there is an onboard fuse as well at the input side of the PSU section?

Temperamental these Fusion amps.
Now modelling the new drivers in WinISD. Using two Epique drivers in 10L available to me, adding Linquitz Transform and an additional 9dB boost to flatten output down to 30Hz as much as i could while fitting below the xmax by limiting the input power. Applying highpass LR4 at 27Hz helps reduce excursion peak. I get this:
Not clear - is the power per driver or total? And will I have to apply this limiter (50W? 50Wx2?) on the Hypex channel output? Or is it enough to just keep the playback volume sensible?

You're doing something weird/wrong with the Linkwitz transform filter.
On the box tab of WinISD you should see and FSC and a QTC below the box volume input. Bump the box volume up by .01 and then back again to make sure the FSC is correct (it should change and then go back to the original when you do this).
Example
Model a single 5.5 epique driver in a 3.44 liter box. You should get an FSC of 75.23hz, and a QTC of 0.703
Plug these numbers into the F0 and Q0 in the LT, then drop in your desired end state parameters into the F1 and Q1. In this case 40hz and 0.71.
