Regarding non-oversampling DACs, you have them with and without analogue reconstruction filter, or to be more precise, with a normal analogue reconstruction filter and with only a zero-order hold (holding the value constant until the next sample comes) as reconstruction filter. The latter type makes no sense technically - decibels of treble droop and lots of ultrasonic crap - but is preferred by some audiophiles.
Again, this whole discussion regarding OS or NOS is filled with mysticism. This is typical for high-end audio in general.

This whole debate between R2R and Delta-Sigma is abstract and filled with mysticism.
What on Earth do you mean by mysticism?
I think it's fantastic that you're rolling your own DAC from the ground up (from a DIY standpoint), but I doubt it sounds better than even cheap IC ones like the PCM-5102.Try a R-2R DAC, those are usually more analog like, that's what my customers say....
I've been following high-end audio for over 40 years and I have distilled one rule of thumb over the years:As a lifelong audiophile (60 years and counting) I have been building my own equipment for the last 5 years BECAUSE I want a better sound. And, despite purchasing expensive parts, chassis, and measuring tools, the overall cost of the end product is trivial by comparison to high-end retail equipment.
But, then, the surprise.
If well-built and based upon superb design (like Wayne Colburn's ideas) the sound result is superior to high-end equipment. And not by a little, but, rather, by a lot.
I know because I've got four and five figure boxes in the garage because they do not compete with DIY designs like the Pearl 3 phono pre.
Comments such as "you get what you pay for" are nonsense and worse in my world.
The more expensive gear always sounds better!!!
So a $1000 amplifier will always sound better than $500 one. And a $10K amplifier always sounds just a little better than a $1000 amplifier. And a $100K amplifier sound just a eensy teensy little better than the $10K one.
It's this simply rule that the entire high-end audio business is based on.
Yes, somehow worse is better.Again, this whole discussion regarding OS or NOS is filled with mysticism. This is typical for high-end audio in general.
As ask in post 1, below my main dac at the moment.
Before I used DIY TDA1541, TDA1384, 2x PCM1794A, Passive DSD, ESS 9038Q2M.
With all kinds of output buffers/filters.

I know nothing of her visions. Please enlighten me.@bigpilot So, how do, for example, Hildegard von Bingen's visions fit into a technical discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of various kinds of DACs?

Maybe you miss the point of a DIY dac or anything else for that matter. It only has to please one person.I think it's fantastic that you're rolling your own DAC from the ground up (from a DIY standpoint), but I doubt it sounds better than even cheap IC ones like the PCM-5102.
This one is also very good, same chip.
I use this one as audio generator for measurements down to -130db.
Not possible to diy for me.

See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hildegard_of_Bingen and the movie Vision - aus dem Leben der Hildegard von Bingen. She was one of the best mediaeval composers in Europe, by the way.
Hildegard von Bingen was, among many other things, a mystic. You wrote:
To me, the discussions on this forum all seem rather down to earth compared to things Hildegard wrote about her mystical visions, such as:
"In this vision, my soul, as God would have it, rises up high into the vault of heaven and into the changing sky and spreads itself out among different peoples, although they are far away from me in distant lands and places. And because I see them this way in my soul, I observe them in accord with the shifting of clouds and other created things. I do not hear them with my outward ears, nor do I perceive them by the thoughts of my own heart or by any combination of my five senses, but in my soul alone, while my outward eyes are open."

Regarding the OT. Not the complete DAC, but only eight additional passive components are required, and a standard Philips I2S signal. TDA1387 X8 module, I2S input to pins 1, 2, 3 (LRCK, BCK, DATA, with 100-430R serial decoupling resistors), ground pin 5, +5VDC pin 28 (2000uF decoupling cap), right channel out pin 6, left channel out pin 25. Simple, passive I/V with two 430R resistors from output to ground. Output coupling caps with PP film 3.3uF for 10k SS inputs, lower value for higher impedence inputs. A simple NOS DAC. Gerber for PCB. Build one and hear it for yourself.
I trust it sounds suitably transparent.Build one and hear it for yourself.
