Pearl 3 Burning Amp 2023

Well, if you build the circuit with the right parts and in the right way, I assumed all things being the same, I should measure between 0V44 and 1V1 across R27, right? I do not understand why this is not the case.
The why is right there in the description for the Pearl 3 phono preamplifier on the diy audio store.
In fact the answer sort of lies in the three first letters in the store name.

I haven’t heard the Pearl 3, but if I had to hazard a guess, I think you would have to multiply the kit cost by 10 or more to buy a plug and play phono stage to get even close to the performance. Some people even pay £25000 for one, or so I’ve heard.
The total cost of the Pearl 3 is not just the $150 for the kit. We have to buy or make an enclosure, invest some of our precious time and maybe fiddle about with some resistor values. But to me this seems well worth it.

that... and it's described as a pioneer project.

re Amazon: over that's couple of months I've been really disappointed. 3 orders were (un)fullfilled with the wrong product and one replacement was wrong again. another order was never filled nor did I get an acknowledgement that they would never deliver it (though the publisher had lots of available stock)

that said... resistor assortment? hmmm...

For general info here I computed my cost for the dual psu, simple modushop chassis, amphenol cables and terminations (6 position) and the total was around $750. Frankly it's the best 750 I've spent in audio. Colburn's incredible design is as close to a perfect audio component as I've heard.

Amazon... I bought some expensive gifts and the cabrones at Amazon shipped them in a clear bag or the original shipping box that clearly states what's inside.

That's it. I'm NOT BUYING GIFTS THROUGH AMAZON AGAIN.

Fulfillment... the one problem that Amazon has is that it figures that it's not responsible for the 3rd party sellers.

From a customer point of view, it's all Amazon to me... it's their decision to use a 3rd party seller but they must take full responsibility. To be honest, in most things they do fine but when they decide to use a 3rd party seller or UPS/USPS/FedEx instead of their own Amazon Logistics then they whole experience goes south pretty fast.

As other places get their online experience up and running ( use Paypal, not requiring a login profile, etc... ) I will start using them more often. Just like the DIYAudio store.

BTW- doing tracking on USPS... this beauty popped up...

Public Unions are NOT a good idea....

@Craigl59 ...cost of the P3... and you are not even taking into account the cost of opamp rolling. But, the alternative would be a used Xono or, if you're rich and lucky, a Vendetta with low hours.

@mhenschel and @tonyEE : Amazon discussions will get the pertinent posse on our tail directly. But would like to add to your comments that knowing their procedure with 3rd party sellers is critical to retail success. Have learned not to purchase certain items (music audio gear, for instance) because they always send used pieces repackaged to be "like new."

I see. I'm just a bit annoyed because I don't have any resistors in the required range, and brick and mortar electronic supplies stores are far and inbetween where I live nowadays.
It´s bloody easy.
Send me 5 Euros for the stamp/postage, and I´ll send you a nice little variety of resistors, you´ll
need to get the current down between 3 and 5 mA. PM if interrested.
As already stated...... Cause is variety in gain of the J113 fet. Imagine the cost, if the DIYA-store should match these individually
on top of everything else??
As already stated too....... The P-3 will work flawlessly, even if the current draw through R27 is a little above the desired value.

Well, then you got FedEx... who have been holding onto a used Parasound T3 tuner....

The best one was Costco online who lost a 77" flat panel TV in their warehouse.... seriously... and then three months later they "found it" and decided to deliver it to my front door. Even though I had refused their offer... Felt bad for the poor guy delivering it... it was a hot day and he really wanted to get rid of the big box... I mean, how do you lose a 77" TV with Big Graphics on its sides?

P3... at least when I got the Burson opamps shipped to me, they shipped them from Hong Kong and then on arrival to LAX they used USPS which got them to me with no fuss.

P3... resistors... should such devices come with a pot to "tune" them?

I always buy stuff on sale. I ended up getting the big TV on sale from the East Coast too... they matched the Costco "blow out" price.

My Alfa Romeo mechanic and yours truly exchanged Christmas cards.... once upon a time...

Except when it's a P3, a P2, Burson opamps or a 252SIT..... then, well... ;-)
