As my own waveguide projects have been on hold for a while, I've been helping a friend with his 12-250TC project. He built approx 140L enclosure for it, which is a transmission line. I can't yet comment on how well it turned out, as we haven't had the chance to listen to it in his living room, only in a less-than-ideal workshop space. The most interesting observation so far has been how much damping the pressed steel frame of this speaker affects its performance.
We used sound-deadening matt for car-audio called STP (similar to Dynamat etc butyl rubber matts)
First pic is on-axis and Hor 15 angles of undamped basket:
Pic 2: Damped basket Hor 0 and 15
Pic 3: Undamped and damped comparison, On-axis / Hor 0
Pic 4: Distortion undamped, Hor 0
Pic 5: Distortion damped, Hor 0
Pic 6: Damped in different angles

wow, all that 1-4khz boosted range (off axis also) was because of the basket ????????????????????
that's like a 5db difference !!!!!!!!!!!!
For me, equalized, aimed off axis, it was great for the money.

It seems so! I think bigger 15-300TC could benefit this as well. Heres its response from manufacturer. It has similar chassis.wow, all that 1-4khz boosted range (off axis also) was because of the basket ????????????????????

Dammit, I had recently shelved the 15's for something smaller. Looks like they are up for experimenting and a cabinet design again...
'BIB' rules! 😎 "Go large or go home!" 👍 Thought you'd learn this 'lesson' well with your BIBs. 😉
True, but I was looking forward to trying some new stuff. I wanted to try some high efficiency multiway horn nonsense. Which isn't small, but I decided to have a modest BIB or two for bass and experiment with mid-high horn configurations.'BIB' rules! 😎 "Go large or go home!" 👍 Thought you'd learn this 'lesson' well with your BIBs. 😉
Also, a pair of true-to-form BIB for the 15 inch Fanes is about the size of my living room. 😜
🙂👍Yeah, > 0.5 Qt drivers really need OB/IB for best overall performance, though depending on the app can perform well in WG/horns as the pioneers proved.

Yeah, love 'FR' drivers for nearfield/low volume apps, but when it's time to R&R, etc., need my horns to go 'LIVE'! 😉

Only outside of the frame. When using some warming for it with hot air blower it sticks much better than massaged in cold (sticks still)Is that "dynamat" stuff on the outside and inside of the frame ?
Sold those to my brother in law, might suggest he should try it out.It seems so! I think bigger 15-300TC could benefit this as well. Heres its response from manufacturer. It has similar chassis.
It is a great driver, a shame they stopped making it.
It can still be ordered from Fane directly, but I have no idea if they have stock or that they will accept larger orders only and only from businesses. I prefer the big Fane fullrangers to many of the boutique options. Those are beautiful and probably have strong points, but their parameters are weird and frequency response is all over the place. I'm a little pissed off that the German diyaudio magazines don't test the Fanea. Surely would generate the attention they deserve.
Hi KaffiMan
Sorry for hijacking the thread: I admired your courage to put up with such large fullrange speakers (and the subwoofers).
Yet, I guess that after a few years you were perhaps tired of that sound.
I'm curious to know: What are your next speakers?
One thing is sure: After getting used to the sound of big speakers, it's hard to go back... (Everything will sound small) 😉

i would expect measurable changes for lining the inside of the metal basket with tissue/damping textile/thin foam as this audibly minimizes the first reflection through the thin paper cone.
For me its an important standard tweak to fullrange drivers.
Damping the metal on the outside made such a big difference in the frequency response?
Still can't believe it.

Preparing the sheets of tissue to be glued on the side facing the paper cone

Thanks for the tip about lining inside of the basket with absorption material, we have some felt that could be tried. At the moment there is sanding and other surface finishing ahead, so there will be some delay.
qts looks good for that, but I wasn't happy with qts driver .4 and 24" from speaker frame to nearest edge of baffle.
Maybe someday.

Never got tired of the sound, it was always meant to serve as a learning experience for me. They sound awesome and the bass is very tight and clean.
I do have a stack of drivers that are intended for the next learning experience... Work in progress.
