Don't forget the FCPGA DAC, almost all the "best" DACs on the market use them, the point is to make great hardware that you don't have to change for years, but just reprogram the way you want it to sound.
And yes, it is not as simple as it seems. But if and when Ian did something like this, I think It would mess up the accounts of the big players quite a bit.

What I would like to see in the future (and I think others too) is 2 versions of the DAC HAT. One based on ES9039PRO or ES9039Q2M DAC chips and one based on AKM's AK4499EX/AK4191 chips.
Or better, forget the chips and make us an FCPGA DAC, configurable, and take my money

We diy’ers like to try hardware and software that’s available in de market.
I truly believe that such an approach would open new possibilities and improvements.

Thanks. Yes, I'm aware that the T+ reclocks the i2s input and will benefit less than a synchronous DAC. I doubt I will notice a difference from the Sonore, except that the Sonore tends to drop out occasionally which I am hoping Ropieee won't do.
I am hoping that the Ian Canada DAC will sound as good or better than the Denafrips DAC and I can sell it. Either way, Ian's stack is much easier to upgrade as new DAC technology becomes available.
Here's what I'm thinking for my build. I'd like to get feedback on whether this is the best configuration. My configuration is based more on available space than cost. I plan to build a two chassis configuration similar to what @Gabster 2000 built for his youtube series. I'm planning to use RopIeee XL on either a RPi4 (which I currently have) or an RPi3B (if the SQ improvement is worth it?).
StationPi SMT - powered by two LinearPi MkII 5V with two UcConditioner MkIIs for each side of the StationPi.
FifoPiQ7 - UcPure Mk III driving clean side.
HdmiPi Pro - sharing power from FifoPi.
ESS9038Q2M - UcPure Mk III - I'm not clear on whether it is best to use this for all three power inputs, or to use the UcPure from the FifoPi for the J2 (DVCC).
OPA861 - two UcPure Mk III.
MonitorPi OLED - I'm assuming this is required (or at least desired) to set up the DAC? I do plan to have a display connected to the RPi.
I'm going to hold off on fancy clocks until I get everything working.
Anything else I should consider?

@iancanada - I can see pros and cons to both approaches. Reclocking certainly reduces jitter and noise from poor sources, but introduces overflow/underflow problems with synchronous sources. At the very least, I think they should allow i2s input without reclocking.
@iancanada - Do you prefer the sound of the Holo DAC (driven by your streamer) over your ESS DAC?
My Spring3 sounds really great by the I2S over HDMI input from a HdmiPi Pro with SC-Pure upgraded.
But I can not decide which is better comparing with my new ES9038Q2M Dual Mono II using the same SC-Pure and OPA861IV (powered by two UcPure for +/-5V).
They have different sound signature. The R2R has higher sound density and plays more dynamic, while the DM II is more musical and with more details.
I'll post a comparison chart later.
