Best Compression Drivers today 2022?

You most probable will need a super tweeter. The exit angle is no issue.

The delivered adapter is not optimal imo.

What if my intention is to cut it off at 450, or so...won't the A290 Yuichi allow that to happen without any major issues?
I am also planning on using it to only 10KHZ and then a horn loaded ribbon which extends to 30kHZ.
My bass bins* will work up to 6 to 700 with no major issues, so could even go higher than 450 if needed.
Thoughts....?
* JBL 2235, 2 per cabinet.

My own William Neile horn design for such a low cut off is more than 60cm long. Compare that to the length of the Yuichi. iirc the original x-over is between 600-700Hz. imo A290 is more a marketing number when you compare this to my mk3b2 horn.

The question is why the Celestion? When you have cheaper and better mesuring ones for this task ( 450 to 10k) like the B&C , BMS , RCF , Radian etc… ?
I have heard from various sources that the Celestion is an excellent CD....and there's a very nice sale on them at the moment ( 499 each), so thought I would try it ( I already have a B & C DCM 50, which I really like ,so if the Celestion doesn't work out, will go with the B & C.)
I also like the possibility of just a 2 way (less complicated), and the AXI 2050 (Celestion), can do that with some modest EQ above 10 KHZ.

No it will not , you can’t have a decent 10k to 20k with a big horn even if the driver could go high , it is already difficult with a 1inch CD and a smaller horn 😅 ( i have tried it with the smaller Arai480 and faital hf108)

I will be happy to hear you about the celestion and DCM50 battle👍

I do not agree what you wrote. Those horns a290, th4001, mk3b2 should be pretty fine for decent hf. There are historic examples which are still rated quite high.

I am aware of this video....I actually initially decided not to purchase the Axi 2050 based on this video, however after talking with some people who actually have listened to this CD, at length, in their own matured system, decided to go ahead with the purchase.

They indicated to me that the 2050 had no major discernable issues ( for them), other than some EQ over 10 k was needed.....the other party has a three way, so no issues with highs over 10k.
They both agreed that there definitely was no harshness or strident quality as the volume was increased ( this is one area in the video that bothered the reviewer).

Anyway I will soon find out.....🙂

I have heard the AXI2050, in my own SEOS30 and home made horn made by a friend according to Kolbreks advice. I heard them first in the homemade horns and bought the AXIs when a used pair was for sale in my neigbourhood. I have listened to many diffrent systems since the 70s and I really like the AXIs. Im probably not enough of an audiophile too see their faults, but they serve me and my ears well. I do not listen to many hifi records, I stopped doing that in the 80s as the quality of the recordings was influensing, too much, what music I listened to. I listen a broad spectre of old and new via vinyl, cd and streaming and my system allows me to enjoy even old 78s and less than perfect recordings. We in this forum probably have many differen goals regardin our systems, and there is not one truth.

Ladies and gentlemen, as far as i have heard the Celestion Axi compression driver has been adopted even for this flagship speaker, here:

Look at the mid high horn size, it is huge!

It has to be huge to be coupled decently with the bass horn.
I heared these a while ago in a too small and too noisy and too resonant hifi studio room.
Used to a beryllium 1" tweeter they lack highest frequencies resolution. But many speakers do compared to that.
Midrange is great! One source and directivity for such a wide frequency range pays off.
There where some resonances in the 100-250Hz area ... probably the room or the low frequency housing, hard to tell. But I had the feeling/experience the lf part is lacking a little behind the horn driver.
