That was a rare find on my end as well, a gem I found one time. The woodstore employees told me "you better not f..k this one up" haha :)

So now I am looking for a mat. All my mats are very dry. I tried kerosine on one of sl-1200 mat I have and it did a great job in restoring the flexibility, but deformed the mat. However, I am concerned with it being tapered (thicker at the edge to accord for the most records being a bit plate shaped) and all negative aspects it may bring for the adjustments. Any mat suggestions?

The only thing about Acromat is their marketing writeup makes me sick to my stomach haha. I am not saying that the mat doesn't work, but those "should sound scientific" claims are just too :). However, if you (and others) say it works I am willing to try.

Audiophile BS marketing, yes, from time to time it makes one want to throw up.

My favorite was Rega calming that the feet under the turntable were “all tuned to a different frequency” (or something like that) because each of the 3 identical rubber feet were holding up different weights. (Because the Center of Gravity wasn’t centered in regards to the feet). I guess the writers can say whatever they want.

I have an acromat on my -1200 and absolutely love it. I’ve no idea at all what exactly it does or how, but it sounds great.

I also quite like cork mats, that have the little dots that hold the record -

I placed sorbothane pads between them and the plinth to isolate some small vibrations from spring noise (just in case). The plinth and the deck are pretty heavy, so it is pretty resistant to vibrations being suspended on the springs.

Yes!
The friend / enthusiast I bought my SP-10 from, without arm, had the lighter 3kg? and heavy Cu 5kg mats.
He preferred the 5kg one.
That was with a SME512 and IO limited cartridge.

I auditioned the 5kg Cu against my favourite American market Pioneer PL-71 mat (I do have the PL-71 complete). It's a composite, sort of hard, and softer layered mat.
It was actually a dead heat.
I think I had 12" arm and definitely SPU Royal N cart at the time.

I never thought more about mats since🙂
