The 1st time I noticed "unknow perception mechanism" was via my late brother's dog. Several minutes before my father arrived from work, the dog went to the door through which he would become visible, and start wagging tail. The issue of "arriving at the same time" could be dismissed because when due to unforeseen circumstances he would be late, the dog still would start wagging tail a few minutes before he arrived. Transmission via sound could be excluded (speed of the bike my father used, attenuation of buildings between him and the dog).
If your father had happened to work as a butcher, the dog would have been able to smell him several blocks away!
With all doors and windows closed, impossible. Plus, the direction of prevalent wind was towards my father (away from the dog). So that only leaves spontaneous / random teleportation of specific (and enough) chemicals - nice subject for SF 😉
Sealed very well, in the era when every house was using fuel like (cheap & dirty) coal and wood for heating.

Did you overlook the prevalent direction of the wind? When not, provide a verifiable explanation how a gas molecule can move against that direction on a trajectory of a few kilometers, not influenced by obstacles like buildings 😏
What if a machine refuse to turn off. is able to make a copy of itself . that can recharge itself when ever feel low . that can repair itself. a machine that can protect itself from someone turning it off. A machine that can plan its future existance. What will you call a machine like that.
We saw Rodney live in '85 at Caesar's Palace in Vegas. They sat us 12 feet from the guy. He was an outstanding comedian... actor, story teller... the whole package.

I've already talked about "circumcision" mentally. For example - an AM radio can't hear or pick up FM signals. And in the life of an AM radio there are NO FM signals!!!
This is roughly how people with a "cut off" perception of the world form their worldview. And everything that is not available to them for perception - call it "nonsense".
And meanwhile - 300 years ago, every child knew what is CONSCIENCE, what is the SOUL, what is INTUITION, etc., etc. ....
