SEAS "textreme" launching soon

In the seas instagram they have told about launching new TPCD series speakers. And those look like textreme cone. Interesting new speakers.

Not on me a the moment, sorry. These pics were taken in September of last year and I've been under a gag-order😀.
I can tell you that there were Textreme labeled boxes all over the lab though.. We did a bunch of measurements in their big Klippel equipped anechoic chamber with the 6,5" in a proto box with a 'normal' diaphragm, the Textreme variant was not quite ready at that time.
An Alnico powered Textreme tweeter could be in the works, who knows?
They are looking at Alnico rather than Neo magnets for sourcing reasons, same with Textreme rather than Be.
It makes eminent sense given the crazy lead times and costs associated with these exotic materials.
Drivers are made in Norway, the baskets are sourced from Sweden as is the diaphragm material (obviously) and I believe the diaphragms are afaik pressed in a well known facility in Germany starting with Dr.
As an aside I can tell you that the new ROY 8" all cone driver as well as the mid in the new megabuck Linn 360 speakers are Seas.

Fancy materials or not; I hope SEAS have made improvements, instead of going with the market. These TPCD cones have been available for OEMs for some time

Fancyllium has some marketing advantages but doesn’t replace good engineering.

A couple of things; please note that the criticism leveled at the Ex Machina is about implementation and not about the drive units or cone material.
Also coaxes will not measure well on axis and this driver is designed to be eq:ed and listened to at >10 degrees. This is especially problematic when people are looking at and comparing NFS measurements.
The Textreme driver was exclusive to Ex M and not available to other OEM:s no other CF cones were previously available from Seas.

Seas (yes, still sourced) graphene, here W16nx3 in WWWWWMTMWWWWW-line. Tweeter is Bliesma T-34B in wave guide.
Tower is driven by Hypex 503 (rear baffle).
Woofer tower consists of 6 x Seas RO4Y (black).

Those are built by mr Øyvind Overn. I designed the xo for them, and also made a calibration at the owners home. They sound really great. The panels on the right side are removed. They live at Gilja, just outside Stavanger.

BTW, most "textreme" drivers out there seem to perform about on par with a traditional carbon diaphragm. I believe Seas' implementation uses a bit more material at the center of the cone, which may improve performance a bit. Since spread tow break so easily one can not easily make a cone shape with a 2 directional weave, but it should be possible with a 3 directional weave.

But I agree with those pointing out that textreme and many other materials are a hype. It is hard to see any advantages over a well designed pulp cone.

At the same time, diaphragm materials seem to totally make people forget about the really important stuff that goes on behind that cone. BTW, the Seas L16RNX003 does that part really good so I am looking forward to seeing the final result of this driver.

The tweeter... Not so interested. I bet it is easily outperformed by a well designed aluminium dome, and is left to just be a low end performer like silk domes. Adding alnico would really affect the price, but hardly the performance. The inner flux modulation would never reach the magnet ring at those frequencies anyway.
