What did you last repair?

Around here it isn’t so much PVC - they use PEX. Still plastic. I wasn’t a fan of it either until 2 winters ago when it went down to the single digits and the copper plumbing was NEVER intended with that in mind. Busted pipes all over the place. I got off easy compared to my neighbors but still had my work cut out for me. With the usual 20 degrees it was never a problem. Now that the weather cycles are expected to get crazier and crazier it’s all going to be PEX from here out.
Big fan of PEX. Just saved my *** yesterday. Was replacing a ball valve mere inches from the main. To my horror when I cut the line water started flowing very healthily. The main had always seemed to hold well, but in this case there was no friction or head to overcome. All I had to do was remain calm and finish crimping. Try that with soldered copper!

I have PB in my old house. Even that's not bad, but you basically have to transition to PEX even for a repair.

Now, the incubator is in my garage: should I even take the time to dismantle it? Or is it all wasted time and effort?

You may be able to replace the SMPS if it's a module, there are plenty of types available.
Repair is not worth bothering with. See if there is a label on the SMPS module, for the specs or model number.
Probably a few hundred watts, and performance is not critical.

The last "repair" is an airconditioning indoor blower that was leaking water inside my bedroom. The "repair" was nothing more than readjusting it to be in a better horizontal position. I also took the occasion to clean the filters and remove some accumulated mould.

Although, this is not a repair, it saved me several tens of Euros for not calling a technician to do it for me.

Had to go do a check / install on my phono pre-amp, above the turn table on left, box yet to be made.
I made the pre amp for a friend.
The other pictures are nostalgic stuff.

I am a man known for my Technology and Engineering Knowledge. It was no coincidence that I won the Novatech Computer prize in about 2010. MVP no less!

Only Tom Brady in the NFL rivals me!

Thus it was that Lovely Louisa was banging on my window this morning. "Are you busy, Steve?"

"Always Louisa, but I have time for you!" I replied. Problem was that Louisa has no Internet...

"Louisa, all you have to do is plug your Smartphone into your Computer, and by the miracle that is the USB connection, soon you shall resume contact with the Internet!"

She looked skeptical. I decided to give her the appropriate USB/mini USB cable on her return from her expedition. I own loads.

That and a copy of Ubuntu Linux, and I have fixed The Universe again.

It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it! 😎

I always buy new tubes for my environmentally friendly bicycle rather than mess about with patches. Rather than suffer massive price rises from £5 to £7 at my local (So called...) Bicycle experts. I am well stocked up with spare inner tubes! A mere £4 at Wilko!

It's the 6 P's. Prior Planning Prevents (Pretty) Poor Performance!

Similarly we are sitting pretty on Energy Prices. Our house is signed up for renewable energy. Opus Energy is still giving us a Kilowatt-hour for 15p.

Opus is invested in Solar Panels and Wind power. Thus immune to all the suffering with Gas.

Contract renewable September 2023. By which time we will have converted the house to burning logs / tyres / domestic waste! 😀

I always buy new tubes
I switched to latex tubes a few years back. At the cost of a new tube vs a patch the latter always gets first shot. Lovely ride but without a bucket of water punctures are nearly impossible to find so a fresh butyl does stay in the seat pack. While normally that gets flipped in today I was lucky enough (?) to find air escaping a small tire puncture and had my first successful field repair.

The ideological BS goes on.
They must burn gas ( if not coal ) when these intermittent energies are nul.
There is NO worthwhile wind power over Europe 25% of the time. There is no worthwhile ways to store electricity.
These facts are well known to real engineers and cannot be hidden anymore.
Here is a main reason for x3 increase on electricity bills.
Worse is yet to come, winter is coming.

Does UK allow private gas wells like the USA?
If yes, drill your own, or look for geothermal and wind.

Submarine batteries from Navy surplus are used by some off grid enthusiasts, think about that.
A look at their techniques to reduce energy use and losses could help you save a lot of expensive energy.
