TPA3255 - all about DIY, Discussion, Design etc

My 3e Audio Tpa3255 board was waiting for me when I got home from work today:giggle: Please excuse the messy temporary setup but I just had to hook it up and see how it sounds and must say I’m pretty impressed with how powerful this little amp is! Just for shots and giggles I decided to try a big 23000uf/100v cap on the output of the Meanwell Rps400 and it starts up, works just fine, and sounds great!

Ok, be careful with capacitors on dc side, there are lot of explanation about that on this forum.
Sometimes it is not so good to add extra cap, switchers are fast response device and it will better regulate output voltage with capacitors placed with design. Energy flaw is also satisfied with good voltage on dc side...
 
how can I use these TPA 3255 amps in the car 12V and bikes 12V
These amp chips need a rail voltage higher than 12 or 14V DC - the minimum recommended operating voltage is 18 Volts DC. Even then, the power output will be minimal (e.g 30 Watts into 4 Ohms) but I think this is still too low for the off-the-shelf amp boards. If you can step up the voltage more to at least 24V then these cheap amp boards should work well. Check out DC-DC boost converters. That might work for you.

Looks good, I'll most likely order 2 of these when available and replace non-PFFB versions in an active speaker design
What I like:
Bottom cooling plate, I can extend that and pipe to heatsink fins
I'm a sucker for coilcraft copper
(almost) No loss of gain vs non-PFFB amp
What I like less:
Seems I'm losing the 12V aux supply from the non-PFFB amp, I'm using it for the 1452 DSP pipeline.
 
I want to use a Wondom ADAU1701 DSP for an active 4-channel diy amplifier along with TPA3255 chip. The ADAU1701 suffers from an output voltage of 0.9 V(1 V) at full volume; the TPA3255 accepts voltage up to 7V. Can I add some sort of gain amplifier after the DACs to match the input voltage of the TPA3255? Maybe a 4 channel 10k pot between the ADAU1701 and tpa3255?

3E DSP and 3255 board use balanced connections and it's plug & play, if you want to make it easy.
 
I already have the ADAU1701. With the correct pin head connectors, the DSP from Wondom is plug and play also. The 3E board also suffers from the 1.0V output.
Maybe my memory fails me, as I recalled the Wondom wasn't balanced. I figured if you hadn't picked an amp board yet then they match in that way, but maybe most boards use balanced input so it wouldn't matter.
Oh well, just a thought.

I got the word that they will be available for sale late next month (August). I plan to pick up four BTL boards and build an 8-channel amp.
That's what I was thinking to do also. I currently have 2 of the 3e 4ch 3251 boards but these look like they would offer both lower noise for my compression drivers and a lot more headroom for sub EQ.

What power supply do you intend to use? I'm also wondering what the implications are for the multiboard configuration - the datasheet suggests there are only 2 slave addresses available, therefore only 3 boards max can have unique addresses.

For some reason my phone pasted the wrong link. This is the 4 channel TPA3255 that I purchased. I missed the 2 Vrms input in the description. Would I be only getting half the performance from the amplifier using the ADAU1701? Would it work if I added an op-amp after the ADAU1701 -> volume pot -> inputs of the amplifier?

I have a Meanwell 1kW supply that I plan to use for the project.

There is a TI app note (SLAA787) that describes how to configure the slaving when multiple boards are used. See table 3 in that document.
