There is nuclear fusion. I think it is worth talking about regarding to high gas price. As long as we have enough gas to get there...
Indeed, this is a way.It is scary to think of what will happen to human civilization when oil will finally run out.
But one possible optimistic scenario:
1. We human will finally be able to harness the power "nuclear fusion".
2. We can use the limitless supply of nuclear fusion power to make "synthetic petroleum".

Be aware Germany made synthetic fuel during WW2. Kerosene is nothing but C10H22, so from stuff than contains carbon and stuff that contains hydrogen, with a right process and energy one can make kerosene.
Unlimited energy from nuclear fission is not ready yet. But, we do have near unlimited nuclear energy from re breeder reactors, a proven technic.
We do have the technology to make synthetic petroleum.
I have been working in the oil industry for over 35 years. Its a crazy industry.
Supply and demand drive oil prices, and a separate supply and demand drives gas/diesel prices. Sometimes they are in sync, sometimes not.
Sometimes they get so whacked out, the price changes are crazy - does anyone even remember last year when WTI was -$37/barrel? Yup, they were PAYING you to take it....now $120/Barrel.
All I can say is ride it out....it should not last after the Russian war.
And lastly, this is a dying industry and this just may be the last of "Peak Oil"

Well.... we could talk about how my niece gave birth the other day. A week ago (when I saw her last) her belly was of a size somewhere between that of a basketball and beachball and the extent of the pain involved in passing that entity through an orifice ill designed for the purpose. If we can't talk about gas price, what else is there to talk about!
There is nuclear fusion. I think it is worth talking about regarding to high gas price.
Nuclear fusion is still at the experimental stage, but recent results from the Joint European Torus (JET) facility in the UK hint that the dream of nuclear fusion power is inching closer to reality.
We're still decades away from a commercial fusion reactor, so the process offers no quick fix.
Besides "peak oil", there is also peak iron, peak aluminum, peak raw materials, etc ... I don't know how human race will survive in the future when we will run out of raw material even if we can figure out nuclear fusion.
There is one farfetched scenario: mining close by planets for raw materials but that is more of a science fiction at the moment.

I can remember my father and Uncle discussing the price of gas when I was 12 years old - 1969.
At 27 cents per gallon, prices were "completely out of control" and "I don't know how anyone can afford to put food on the table anymore".
Well, somehow we all survived and so did the topic of conversation.

Ah yes, the Fischer- Tropsch process (AKA Coal Gassification) now wholly owned by Sassoil. Not very efficient, horrible octane/cetane numbers...but that's all Germany had...gave the allies a huge advantage with high octane/cetane fuel.Be aware Germany made synthetic fuel during WW2.
By the time we run out of raw materials on this planet, we would be further along in transportation technology to harvest materials from other planets / moons. Ever heard of USCSS Nostromo and LV-426?Besides "peak oil", there is also peak iron, peak aluminum, peak raw materials, etc ... Check out the ITER Project at www.ITER.org First Plasma scheduled for Dec 2025. Yes, it's going to be a while before it's online but at least we're moving in the right direction. One of the more hopeful things I've read about in a very long time.Nuclear fusion is still at the experimental stage, but recent results from the Joint European Torus (JET) facility in the UK hint that the dream of nuclear fusion power is inching closer to reality.

ITER is an experimental fusion reactor. It is only preparing the way for the fusion power plants of tomorrow.

Of all the crazy things going in the world, at least there is some hope for future humanity.Thousands of engineers and scientists have contributed to the design of ITER since the idea for an international joint experiment in fusion was first launched in 1985. The ITER Members—China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States—are now engaged in a 35-year collaboration to build and operate the ITER experimental device, and together bring fusion to the point where a demonstration fusion reactor can be designed.
I thought about solar energy on a small scale. Very small, I'm talking just enough to power 1 1000 watt light outside of the city.
I wonder if a full out kit to power a 2400 sq ft house complete would be cost effective today, with all this inflation.

Public transportation. You can hear all the guys with their bicycles talking on their cellphones telling the person on the other end they are on the metro because their drivers license was revoked after receiving their last DUI. Three DUI's and they're out.
I won't buy a $90k+ Tesla until they sell a model that costs as much as a Honda Civic. I don't need to ride around feeling smug that I have a lower carbon footprint than someone in a gasoline burning vehicle. They don't realize that their "green" vehicle has a high ROI and really isn't that "green" with regards to the environmental consequences involved with mining the lithium and other metals for their batteries and electronic devices in their cars. They also don't consider the cost of changing lithium batteries and disposing the worn out batteries is going to involve. What a big wake up when that time comes.
It's doubtful there will be a electricity producing fusion reactor before I turn 90. That will be up to the people who figure out what the universe is expanding into or what contained the material the Big Bang exploded from in the beginning of time. I sure hope the people who can figure all that out read those postings.

Besides clean energy from nuclear fusions, we as human kind has to address where we will get raw materials. They don't realize that their "green" vehicle has a high ROI and really isn't that "green" with regards to the environmental consequences involved with mining the lithium and other metals for their batteries and electronic devices in their cars. Get a motorcycle! It's not hard to find a 600cc that will get you 50 mpg (US), and provide plenty of grins doing it (or you can tip the balance in either direction with your purchase choice). Not a real good solution if the weather is extremely bad, depending on your dedication...

Its a good idea unless were talking about a new rider and were talking a 600 sport bike. If the gas man don't getcha the insurance man sure will. For riders starting out I would suggest a 250cc. Unless they have money to burn. If they do gas costs wouldn't of been a thing in the first place.
WHen I looked into getting a motorcycle, the insurance for me as a new rider at the age of about 23 was only 600$/year. I was paying almost 6000$/year for my car at that point.
Now, I'm considering it again...
