Second controller board build was successful. Microcontroller initializes and responds to IR code learning and parameters selection. BTW, IR receiver is connected with 30 cm unshielded flat cable and operates flawlessly with excellent sensitivity.
Seems that despite all proper ESD precautions first MCU went south somehow.

But, my fun continues. There is no sound from volume control board. Looks like I’m destined to build everything twice.

Default microcontroller parameters are set different than stated in documentation (at least with my MCU). Noticing that idle state LED is lit while volume is muted and not the opposite, I’ve put balanced mode setting to 000 and voila, it works.

While entering parameter value 0, zeros must be entered at slow pace, otherwise it will trigger again parameter mode entry which is 000 as well.

Balance and volume step adjustments are great addition to V2 Muses volume. With 1 dB steps, my 64 step encoder behaves and feels like hi-end classic potentiometer, but this is incomparably better volume control than any potentiometer.

However, balance control reveals some discrepancy to what is left or right channel. Per documentation, left channel is on X4 connector and that’s how it was connected in the preamplifier. Increasing balance on the left channel (parameter 2) actually increases volume on right channel. Is this supposed to work like that? If so, it would help to add a note or correct what is written at page 4, where is for both L & R parameters written the same.
