The question of intelligent or not. How intelligent are we? North Carolina was down to about 2000 COVID cases a day. It now has hit almost 45,000. Was just in Home Despot. Missing from the Goldilocks zone equation is if the planet has a molten core to maintain a magnetic field and so protect an atmosphere. There are some suggestions that a relatively large moon is required, though I have not seen the justifications.
Well we contact alien intelligent life? Probability says it is or was out there in abundance, but that darn speed of light kind of makes it a problem. We we can do as they did in Dune, and get high to fold space, maybe. Or if we can generate a spate-time wave and ride it warping space/time within a bubble, maybe. I hope we make new discoveries about space and the universe. I never felt so special that we are the choses planet/species.

Yes, I read that a magnetic field is essential to retain life-essential water on a planet.
Mars started out with plenty of water. Scientists are now convinced that the loss of its magnetic field allowed solar radiation to break up water vapour in its atmosphere. The resulting hydrogen then escaped, making Mars the desert it is today.

Is the moon gravitationally flexing the earths core, and helping to keep it molten? I was surprised to learn a few years ago that the earth's core is molten because of radioactive decay, and not as I thought, just because it takes billions of years for a molten iron core of about 2000 miles in diameter with a rock and silica over blanket to cool.
By the power of Google (!) I can confirm that the Earth's mantle deforms elastically due to tidal effects caused by the Moon.
This effect could continuously stimulate the motion of the liquid iron alloy making up the outer core, and in return generate Earth's magnetic field.
Still, if something, It, is expanding, it must invade something. Its pure logic. But probably the question is faulty defined.Welcome to the discussion, CaptainWatt.
I can't find fault with your submission as you are echoing what I submitted earlier in the thread.

If distance, as we perceive and measure it, seem to increase it might be because of some "travel resistance" - I would accept that in a fixed space/room, travel resistance is increasing without an expansion in volume. And this would to us look like expansion... But as per used language in this topic title, I cant accept the notion that a truly volume expanding body does not consume new space.

Does life need a moon type object? Does it need something like Van Allen belts to screen out excess star radiation? Add to that the unknows listed and guessed at in Bonsai's linked video, what is intelligence and how might it differ from our understanding of it, etc, etc - and the answer is - Waaaaaay too many variables of unknown value to even begin to make a reasonable statement about life elsewhere in the universe and whether we'll ever meet it. It's fun to discuss and hypothesize as long as we remember it's total speculation... Until someone comes knocking...
